Summary

Develops copy for various promotional and brand programs across multiple channels (including print, web, social, eNewsletters, digital, and video). Creative writing, accuracy of content, editorial consistency, and correct brand positioning are top responsibilities. The writer must be a creative problem-solver and adept at negotiating key deliverables with exceptional quality and proficient speed. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure copy consistency across channels. Partners with creative designers, vendors, agency partners, and marketing project managers to deliver on project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and proofread promotional, editorial and product copy for all assigned categories and media channels; includes print, web, social, eNewsletters, digital, video, editorial content and PR opportunities.
  • Interpret creative briefs and bring the brand’s vision to life through creative copy that is consistent with the brand platform.
  • Deliver copy that is accurate, adheres to corporate/federal/provincial advertising regulations and meets deadlines.
  • Comfortably vary voice, style, and other characteristics based on the objective or target audience of the brief while still adhering to brand tone of voice.
  • Collaborate with creative designers, content crew, marketing leads, merchants, translators, and legal and incorporate their direction and feedback when required.
  • Collaborate with other cross-functional teams for consistency across channels.
  • Research vendor and competitor sources to develop copy that meets the objectives of the brief.
  • Create/maintain copy (OTIS) database and/or libraries.
  • Complete special projects upon request. Perform all other duties assigned.
  • Follow published policies related to health and safety rules specific to the workplace as provided by senior management. Promote health and safety within the workplace. Report any potential problems or unsafe situations to supervisors and/or senior management.

Critical Qualifications

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a high-volume workload often requiring short turnaround times.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills are required. Must be able to work on multiple projects in a detail-driven environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Must be familiar with current Canadian advertising laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in both PC and Mac operating systems is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant University or College Degree - Advertising, Marketing, English, Communications or Journalism degree or diploma
  • 3 or more years of relevant experience

Additional Requirements

  • Word - Create copy; basic knowledge required.
  • Excel - Input copy for various projects and managing databases; basic knowledge required.
  • Adobe InDesign and xD for page layouts.
