Job description
As our in-house copywriter, a genuine love for the written word is a must. You’ll be a talented wordsmith and will be as comfortable creating snappy headlines and compelling content as you are writing technical product specifications or manuals.
We’re looking for someone to work in our Swindon head office for 2 days a week, on a Tuesday and Thursday and 3 days working from home.
You’ll be responsible for crafting new copy in Oak Furnitureland’s distinct voice, that supports product launches, as well as improving and maintaining a wide variety of multi-channel content that helps to reinforce our brand, and cement our position as one of the leading retailers in the UK.
The copywriter is the guardian of the Oak Furnitureland brand. Your content will inspire, educate, inform and showcase our wide variety of quality furniture to consumers in a way that’s accurate and engaging so an understanding of consumers and creating compelling, factual, authentic content that truly resonates, will be key.
You’ll sit in the PR and Communications team, but will work closely with almost all areas of the business (Social media, eCommerce, design, product, and retail to name but a few) so you’ll need to be able to work collaboratively - we’re all one team, united in going above and beyond to showcase the very best of the Oak Furnitureland brand.
Responsibilities
Brand guardian - we know who we are and what direction we’re going, it’s your responsibility to craft our tone of voice and take our customers on the journey with us
Responsible for all copy hosted on the Oak Furnitureland website
Providing editing and proofreading support for the business alongside team members
Support the wider content strategy, alongside the wider marketing team, by providing engaging copy for the website and email marketing channels
Work with PR, social, eCommerce, design and product team functional specialists as required to ensure delivery of key messages as required by the business
Help to manage the creation and distribution of key internal comms messages on behalf of the marketing function of OFL to the wider business
Able to create a wide variety of content types and styles, short and long-form copy, including for web and email
Collaborate with the comms team to generate engaging content ideas and campaign suggestions to be implemented across marketing channels
Help identify key opportunities to enhance the customer purchase journey through compelling storytelling
Skills and Experience
The ability to produce accurate, engaging copy is vital
Solid understanding of all aspects of content creation; from planning and research, to writing, editing, publishing, and regularly reviewing
You’ll have experience of working in a similar role previously (client or agency side)
Understanding of the overall marketing mix and the role copy has to play within it across multiple channels
Ensuring all content presents an accurate overview of brand and is aligned to brand guidelines - authenticity is important to us
Good understanding of the market, and user behaviour in the ecommerce landscape
Understanding of SEO principles would be useful
Good planning and organisation skills
Collaboration within the marketing department is vital as we’re all working to achieve the same goal so it’s essential that you’re a team player
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A high standard of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
