Copyediting Fellow

Copyediting Fellow London, England

Insider Inc
Full Time London, England 24000 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Insider is hiring a full-time editorial fellow in the UK to help our team of copyeditors handle edits for a 24-hour newsroom.

Our copyeditors edit all kinds of stories — from breaking news to investigative features — as well as headlines, homepages, social-media posts, push alerts, and more.

They edit for errors of fact, logic, and sense, in addition to grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style. They tighten writing and make it clearer.

The copyeditor fellow will be responsible for giving second edits to articles on weekdays. We value creativity, accountability, and diversity of ideas and opinions.

The fellow will report to Insider's copy chief and will work closely with reporters and editors to improve stories. The ideal candidate will be comfortable reading a wide variety of news stories and quickly identifying issues both stylistic and substantive.

The Insider Fellowship Program is for early-career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists.

Fellows are paid an annual salary of £24,000, pro rata for the six months of the fellowship. You are welcome to work from our office in Old Street, central London, or remotely.

Some skills that would make a candidate successful in this role:

  • General knowledge of principles and standards of journalism
  • Experience editing, especially at a news website
  • Enthusiasm for learning house style and improving your own work
  • Familiarity with content-management systems
  • A positive, team-first attitude and a sense of humor
  • Awareness of language nuances in diverse subject fields
  • Passion for learning and reading about global news
  • Effective time management and ability to work independently

Please let us know know in the cover letter why you'd be a great addition to our newsroom.

Are you passionate about this opportunity, but worried that you don't have 100% of the experience we're looking for? We still want to hear from you! Apply online and let us know why you would make a great addition to the Insider community.
