The Division for Community Living within the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), in collaboration with community partners, provides and advocates for resources and services to improve the employment, quality of life, security and independence of older Virginians, Virginians with disabilities, and their families. The Division for Community Living receives substantial funding from the Commonwealth to augment federal programs and to offer additional programs to people with disabilities and older Virginians.
DARS is seeking a Farm Market Fresh Coordinator (Restricted) to administer the Farm Market Fresh program, Virginia’s Senior and WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (S/FMNP). This position will be responsible for the expansion of the Farm Market Fresh program throughout the Commonwealth. It will oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations including: transitioning to an electronic solution, recordkeeping, promotion, network building, training, monitoring and evaluation.
This is a restricted position and continuation of this program is contingent upon availability of funds.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
Knowledge / Experience - Broad knowledge of federally funded food programs. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro and Google Workplace. Experience simultaneously managing multiple priorities.
Skill / Ability - Ability to interpret and apply state and federal policies and procedures; to convey information clearly and concisely to various audiences both orally and in writing. To communicate in a professional and respectful manner with the public, co-workers, and community network electronically, in-person and via telephone. To work with internal and external customers in an outreach and marketing capacity. Maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders and work independently and meet deadlines.
A degree in public health, nutrition, agriculture, business management, public administration or related human services field or training/education and/or experience in public health, nutrition or agriculture may be substituted for a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with the agricultural community, especially farmers and farmers’ market managers; with low-income populations, including older adults, individuals with disabilities, and WIC eligible families.
