Position: Financial Controller
Job Description:
The Financial Controller is responsible for a substantial department delivering Management Accounting services and will oversee the day-to-day operations to ensure delivery of the company’s strategic plan working in conjunction with the Client Delivery Manager. Strong client and people management skills are essential within this role to ensure BAU is maintained whilst continuing to seek efficiencies through effective people management and automation. Reporting to the Managing Director this is a senior role at the heart of service delivery working with the Client Delivery Manager to provide a cohesive service to clients which meets and exceeds client expectations.
Duties
- Ensure operational delivery of services to meet and exceed client requirements
- Work closely with Business Development and the Client Delivery Manager to assist and take ownership of the New Business identified for the department in regard to costings, client relationships, on-boarding and follow up reviews.
- Build and develop strong relationships with clients through the provision of appropriate services and advice, attending key client biannual meetings at operational levels
- Develop professional and valued relationships with key strategic clients – identifying areas where adding value to clients results in increased business and growth in fee income.
- Facilitate client file reviews and regular communication via conference calls and site visits as part of BAU
- Ensure that client needs are met by scheduling work correctly whilst maintaining and developing quality controls, ensuring that correctly trained and competent staff are assigned to the relevant tasks
- Ensure team resources are managed effectively to meet client deadlines, service quality and standards and client expectations through regular workload meetings
- Provide strong effective leadership and support to your immediate and wider team
- Engage fully with the recruitment and training and development programme for staff, working alongside HR and the Training Manager to assess and define each employee’s competencies, setting individual objectives and undertaking/contributing to performance appraisals
- Ability to manage departmental and client budgets to achieve financial objectives
- Be fully involved in the annual budgeting process, monthly reporting and forecasting on a departmental basis, providing analysis and commentary of KPI’s against original budget and forecast.
- Technical ability to prepare, review and ensure accuracy and compliance of all compliance work delivered by the department and company
- Accountability for performance of the department analysing sales and cost recoveries to maximise profitability whilst maintaining high quality standards.
- Identify and advise on new processes and controls or the need for new systems that will enhance the current service, drive productivity and improve recoveries.
- Maintain a culture of openness, trust and mutual cooperation between customers, employees and the wider Equiom family.
- Promote an open and transparent culture within the department and greater organisation by having a strong open dialogue and relationship with the Senior Leadership Team as well as individual departments, ensuring company message is delivered and adhered to.
- Play a key role in the communication framework and hold regular team meetings to cascade management communications and identify issues from staff, ensuring a good two-way communication in the business.
- Contribution to the broader management and development of Equiom Scotland and the Management Accounts Department.
- Maintain an awareness of current market issues, changes to accounting standards and professional updates to ensure the continued provision of a high quality professional service.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
Experienced Qualified Accountant with strong client focus and the ability to effectively manage client relationships
- Flexible, able to work under pressure and have the ability to prioritise whilst remaining calm and continuing to set a professional example to your team.

Job Type: Full-time
Salary: £40,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
