Job Purpose:
The Control Systems Data Analyst maintains, validates and reports on the Control Systems Information and Incentives Project (IIP) data for the three licensed areas this includes regulatory reporting submissions. The Control Systems Data Analyst is responsible for developing, maintaining and analysing system reports and databases to enable performance to be monitored across all Network Operations functions in business as usual and system emergency scenarios. The role also includes interfacing with external partners such as local authorities.

The post holder will become a point of reference in the provision of data and analysis from the Control Systems and associated services, as well as involvement in wider team activities including system testing, process development, support and enhancement of the control system, contributing towards the goal of making the UK Power Networks Control Systems the best in the world.

Dimensions:
Deputise for the Control Systems Data Solutions Manager

Working across Network Operations to provide an information and reporting framework to enable objectives in monitoring the improvement in the performance of the Networks Business to be achieved.

Provision of information services including business analysis, requirements capture, data modelling, data extraction, solution development, solution delivery and ongoing support.

Take ownership of solution projects ensuring that customer’s expectations are managed and delivered.

Assist where necessary in the preparation of the Regulatory Reporting Pack and Information Incentive Project regulatory returns.

To be involved with various projects led by any UKPN directorate providing data knowledge and expertise around the Control Systems.

Provide accurate information to maintain Regulatory compliance.

Provide an accurate data model of the PowerOn system.

Management of the customer association data within PowerOn and monitoring & resolution of issues within the Panther stack to ensure customers are correctly assigned to the connectivity model.

To provide support and maintenance to the MSBI reporting servers.

Continual development of set by applied practice i.e. SQL, VBA, Excel, Access and business objects.

Improved understanding of in house systems and their relationship and uses e.g. Panther, Strumap, MPRS, SAP, Dinis, PowerOn and LV Webview

Production of validated data in user friendly format for the business critical environment for Regions, Areas, Network Operations & Control and Local Authorities

Creation of ad-hoc reporting as requested by the Networks Operations business unit to assist in performance monitoring and RRP purposes during business as usual and system emergencies using business objects.

Manage requests from around the business and prioritise work load accordingly based on criticality of request.

To minimise the amount of data inaccuracies in the Control System data set.

Perform the storm role Business Systems Reporting Analyst to ensure the strategic and tactical teams have accurate and correct data to base their decisions on during system emergencies or major events.

Nature and scope:
The Control Systems Data Analyst reports to the Control Systems Data Solutions Manager within the Network Control and Operations Team. The Control Systems and Automation team are dedicated to making UK Power Networks Control Systems world class. The team goal is to continuously improve safety, application performance, innovation, data accuracy and usability with a view to drive down CI’s and CML’s.

The post holder will be responsible for the production of accurate, timely reporting streams for any colleague at any level of the business. These reports provide insight into performance, improvement opportunities, and the maintenance of regulatory compliance. Also reporting streams are used to supplement new and existing business processes, and are vital tools in improving performance and maintaining a high level of performance.

The post holder will also be responsible for the accuracy of PowerOn data, primarily around the customer to network link, responding to requests and enquiries on a daily basis. This work helps to ensure we maximise any opportunity in improving customer service and in turn our broad measure scores, and in turn our reputation in the industry and with our customers.

Another key aspect of this role is system analysis and testing, around system upgrades, and process development to ensure our control systems are the best they can be.

The successful candidate will be a key member of the team assisting with the development of initiatives and processes that will cement UK Power Networks position as the leading UK DNO and a leader in future transition to DSO.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate will have both a high degree of data analysis and system analysis experience preferably around control systems, and must be able to demonstrate a high level of initiative and commitment towards safety, meeting business targets and finding solutions. The successful candidate will be someone has an open mind and can continually be creative when finding solutions to problems, with the ability and vision to be part of new initiatives.

Technical skills in all of the following

Excel and it’s use of Visual Basic code in macros

Querying SQL Server/Oracle databases and writing SQL scripts/stored procedures to extract and transform data for analysis or report provision utilising Data Transformation Solutions (DTS)

Knowledge of the use of the Visual Studio development environment.

Web report programming using Microsoft Reporting Services

Microsoft PowerBI and similar data visualisation tools.

Knowledge of Networks Business core activities and processes is essential.

Experience of analytical techniques is essential along with good logical problem solving skills.

Knowledge of Networks Business critical IT systems is essential.

Analysis – The drive to bring rigorous analysis to all data issues, to understand the cause and effect and the impact that these will have on the company’s assets.

Practical understanding of electrical networks, plant & equipment at all voltages. City and Guilds 2339 (Electrical Power Engineering) or equivalent.

Skills will include the ability to correctly interpret data supplied from a wide range of field staff and contractors and to understand when data supplied could be inaccurate.

Able to analyse and grasp an entire situation quickly from many perspectives and create well-reasoned solutions.

Demonstrates high ethical and moral behaviour, unquestionable integrity and character.

Comprehension of Regulatory Policies and Procedures with regards to Licence Conditions and the D Code.

Ability to work in a pressured environment as part of a highly focused team.

In depth knowledge of the distribution network from LV to 132kV including SCADA, Protection and working practices.

Sound technical background with an in-depth technical knowledge in the operation and administration of control systems services and applications.

Extensive experience and knowledge working within highly developed control and automation systems environments.

Excellent communication skills to support and influence stakeholders.

Ability to communicate clearly and confidently at all levels of the organisation.

The drive and ability to work co-operatively with others to achieve shared goals and optimise the contribution of all members of the team.

Good understanding of GS/OS standards and the OFGEM/Regulatory framework.

Strong customer focus, without losing sight of safety and profitability.
