Job Title: Control Room Manager
Location: Glasgow HQ
Salary: £58,400 - £73,000 + Up to 20% Bonus + Family Health Cover + Car Allowance

Our SP Energy Networks business is responsible for the distribution of electricity to your property via our network of pylons, substations, cables and power lines. We serve 3.5 million homes and businesses across Central & Southern Scotland, Cheshire, Merseyside, North Shropshire and North Wales.


What you’ll be doing
You’ll be responsible for all aspects of the real-time control and operation of the SP Energy Networks Transmission and Distribution network. This involves the management of safety, system integrity, customer service and co-ordination of system access while ensuring compliance with both Distribution and Transmission licences. An integral part of this will involve mentoring and coaching team members and developing and encouraging a strong team culture.


Responsible for minimising risk to the Transmission and Distribution networks by co-ordinating activities with the District & Transmission Operations management teams to ensure all planned and unplanned work is completed timeously, cost effectively and with the correct priorities. Responsible for ensuring the Control delivers the highest levels in Safety Compliance & Customer Service in line with SPEN strategic goals.


Responsible for the development of policies and strategies associated with system restoration activities. This will involve engaging and working closely with other parts of the business, HSE, BEIS, OFGEM, NGET and other DNO’s. Represent SPD & SPT interests in Government led Industry Groups.


Responsible for all aspects of Control Room Emergency Planning and Business Continuity. Responsible for ensuring SPD & SPT is in a state of readiness during periods of increased network risk due to severe weather. Responsible for ensuring SPD & SPT is in a state of readiness to act on Government or National Grid instructions to implement emergency demand reduction. Responsible for ensuring the Control Room has an agreed viable Black Start plan to restore the SPT & SPD network and associated 2 million customers following a total GB shutdown.

  • Ability to lead and motivate teams.
  • Computer literacy – e.g., Microsoft Office suite
  • Detailed knowledge of real time SCADA systems managing SPD & SPT networks
