Job description

As a Content Designer (Environment Art) in our Edinburgh studio, you will be working within the Design team to produce exceptional environments using custom level editing tools. You will be responsible for building high quality environments from the ground up. You will be responsible for the full life cycle of the content, from initial concept through to final implementation and iteration to create high quality and beautiful environments. You will work under the direction of a creative lead and collaborate with artists and scripters to finish creating each environment while ensuring that it aligns well with the other aspects of the game, and its visuals and environment. This role would suit highly creative individuals with a good eye for visual consistency and aesthetics.

This position is also expected to be able to deal with other disciplines to resolve problems and elicit requirements within the context of the design.


Responsibilities

  • Plan, build and iterate on interesting and visually compelling environments.
  • Receive and properly implement feedback from Leads and Directors in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the Design and Art teams to create and refine environments for gameplay purposes.
  • Ability to concisely explain the reasoning behind design decisions.
  • Prioritise, plan and manage the time of assigned tasks with oversight.
  • Communicate clearly with other team members with minimal external help.
  • Be vigilant for and report new problems, delays and risks to the appropriate stakeholders.

Requirements

  • A high-quality portfolio of visual art in any medium is essential. This could be 2D visual art or 3D environments.
  • A portfolio demonstrating maps or missions created within a game engine or in a game featuring player facing creation tools is a strong plus.
  • A portfolio showing examples of 3D environments is a strong plus.
  • Self-motivated and driven to creatively solve problems.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, high growth, start-up company environment.
  • An ability to respond constructively to feedback and effectively manage various pieces of feedback concurrently.
  • Strong English skills (written as well as verbal).
  • Experience working with a game engine (UE, Unity, UDK or other proprietary), using tools to create environments and/or gameplay is desirable but not required.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4 or Unreal Engine 5 is desirable but not required.
  • Shipped AAA game(s) is desirable but not required.
  • Experience working in any games industry job is a strong plus.
  • Willing to work full time in our office in Edinburgh.
