Job description
We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Histopathology on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Histopathology department.
The appointee will be joining a department that's specialised services include cancer diagnosis and treatment, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, renal and dialysis services, neonatal intensive care and paediatric intensive care. We are recognised for our particular expertise in trauma, respiratory conditions, spinal surgery, upper gastro-intestinal surgery, complex orthopaedic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and the management of liver conditions.Our client's cellular pathology processes in excess of 65000 surgical cases, 5500 non-gynaecological cytology cases and 1000 post mortems (the majority for H M Coroner) per annum. The laboratory is modern, well equipped and has excellent facilities including those for immunohistochemistry and rapid processing as well as FISH and Molecular services.
The successful appointee will be asked to join an existing team of 16 Consultant Histopathologists and 3 speciality doctors to further develop the newly formed North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service (NMCPS) clinical histopathology service. The appointee will be asked to fulfil various duties, these include: be actively involved, along with consultant colleagues, in the training of junior medical staff and Medical Laboratory Scientific staff & participate in the undergraduate medical students teaching programme. Participation in job planning, regular medical audit and in annual appraisal with one of the trained appraisers within the Trust, be required to participate in professional audit and continuing professional development and to participate in internal and external quality assurance programmes as appropriate & share in the provision of a diagnostic and consultative service to the NMCPS comprising Hospitals, MCHFT/ECT and wider service users. It is expected that the persons appointed will have, or be willing to develop subspecialist reporting in one to three cellular pathology disciplines to complement those of existing consultants
