The Ministry of Justice and Attorney General provides a fair justice system that upholds the law and protects the rights of all individuals in Saskatchewan; promotes safe and secure communities; and provides legal and justice policy advice to government.
The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is responsible for overseeing Saskatchewan’s correctional system and facilities, and for providing guidance and support to Saskatchewan’s municipal police services.
The Saskatchewan Firearms Secretariat supports the Chief Firearms Officer in the performance of duties imposed by the Firearms Act (Canada), and in the promotion of the safe and lawful use and storage of firearms by the citizens of Saskatchewan.
The Opportunity
The Communications Branch is seeking a creative and highly motivated Senior Communications Consultant with experience in external and internal communications, event planning and managing web content. Reporting to the Director of Communications you will:
- Support the ministry’s internal and external communications needs and strategies;
- Manage and develop internal and external web content;
- Organize news internal and external events;
- Be responsible for writing, editing, and reviewing ministry communications such as speaking notes, briefing notes, key messaging and correspondence;
- Monitor justice and corrections media stories, promote ministry activities, and respond to media inquiries;
- Work with your colleagues in the Communications Branch to coordinate internal and external communications; and,
- Provide strategic communications support to other branches and divisions within the ministries.
The Ideal Candidate
As our successful candidate you will be well-organized with superior judgment and people skills and demonstrate:
- An in-depth knowledge of strategic communications and the ability to identify key issues;
- An in-depth knowledge of media practices and techniques;
- The ability to research, analyze and integrate complex and often sensitive information from numerous sources in a timely manner;
- The ability to compose a variety of internal and external communications materials, including website and intranet content, speeches, and news releases;
- The ability to work as part of a team in order to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while working independently and supporting others within the organization;
- A desire to strive for service excellence when collaborating with internal and external stakeholders; and,
- The ability to be innovative and demonstrate initiative when working in a constantly changing environment.
Typically, the knowledge and competencies required for this position would be acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree in journalism, English, communications studies or a related field of study, combined with relevant experience. Working knowledge of best practices in internal communications, web content development and Saskatchewan media is an asset.
A valid Saskatchewan drivers license is required as occasional travel within the province will be required.
