Job description
The Role
The successful candidate will be between the stages of approaching qualification or up to 4 years qualified, and either with a broad background in litigation or has begun to specialise in Construction.
The candidate will be working in one of the fastest growing construction teams in the region and in a highly successful team led by Sam Bawden. The team predominantly focuses on contentious construction which is complimented by the non-contentious offering including client training, contract negotiations and reviews.
The team places a strong focus on business development and the successful candidate will be encouraged to attend client events, present at our seminars/webinars with our legal partners and build client relationships.
Recent examples of work the team has acted on:
Multiple successful Adjudications covering, amongst other things, interim and final account payment disputes, including a claim for loss of profit against a national housebuilder following its repudiatory breach of contract.- Successful enforcement of Adjudicator’s decisions in the TCC, including those challenged on novel jurisdictional arguments.
- Successful litigation on behalf of a homeowner in relation to defective works relating to a swimming pool and underground car garage at his countryside home.
- On behalf of a ceiling and partitions sub-contractor, negotiated a mediated settlement with the Hong Kong-based owners, of a high value dispute relating to the fit out of a London hotel.
- Partnering with the Scaffolding Association & the National Association of Shopfitters to offer members access to expert legal advice. Numerous instructions received across contentious and non-contentious matters.
What experience do I need?
Ideally you will have knowledge and experience within construction work and you will be able to demonstrate a keen interest in this area.We would be happy to speak with any candidate that may have a more general background in litigation who believes constructions may be for them. The team places a strong focus on knowledge sharing and full training will be offered to complement any broader experience.
