Business Need/Purpose of role:

Weir Minerals Europe needs a Compliance Accountant to be the primary point of contact for all compliance activities throughout the region. This role will report into the UK Financial Controller and will work closely with the UK finance team and local offices. The Compliance Accountant will oversee all statutory financial reporting and associated audits, being the main point of contact for KPMG (accounts production) and PwC (external auditors).

This person will also take ownership of the internal audit process and ensure that actions identified from these audits are followed up in a timely manner. The Compliance Accountant will work with the wider business / finance team on other ad-hoc requests as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing and controlling the statutory reporting process throughout the region:
  • Preparation of the Weir Minerals Europe Limited financial statements in the UK. Working closely with the Group Finance team in respect of ensuring accounting policies are up to date, any new/revised accounting standards are accounted for correctly, managing the review process. Maintaining a clear reconciliation between the SAP GL and the financial statements.
  • Managing the accounts production process and being the point of contact for KPMG in respect of the European financial statements (dealing with information requests, assisting with Group to Local GAAP adjustments, first review of the output provided by KPMG). Ensuring that the SAP secondary ledger is updated with account adjustments to enable a clear reconciliation between the Group ledger and the financial statements.
  • Managing the external audit process, being the primary point of contact for PwC. Includes planning meetings, agreeing audit timetables, ensuring that requests are dealt with and information provided in a timely manner, working with both the UK finance team and the wider business to ensure all requests are directed to the most appropriate people to be able to deal with them.
  • Provide assistance to the Tax and Treasury Manager in respect of the associated Corporation Tax returns
  • Overseeing the internal audit process, being the primary point of contact for the Group Internal Audit team. Includes planning meetings, agreeing audit timetables, ensuring that requests are dealt with and information provided in a timely manner, working with both the UK finance team and the wider business to ensure all requests are directed to the most appropriate people to be able to deal with them, ensuring that follow up actions are dealt with in the agreed timescales
  • Ownership of the compliance scorecard, including providing a fair reflection of the business’ performance and identifying and implementing process to improve areas of risk/weakness. Ensuring that the self-testing programme is maintained.
  • Being the point of contact for ONS, ensuring all ONS forms are populated and returned in a timely and accurate manner, liaising with the wider business to achieve this where necessary
  • Assisting with any other regulatory tasks as and when they arise, including providing support to the Group Finance Team with any requests they may have in respect of WME
  • Providing support to the UK finance team as required
  • Other ad-hoc tasks as required

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Fully qualified accountancy qualification (essential)
  • Experience of working with financial statements (essential)
  • Audit experience as either the client or the auditor (essential)
  • Highly competent in using MS Office suite, particularly MS Excel and MS Word (essential)
  • Experience of working in an international environment (desirable)
  • SAP experience (advantageous)

Core Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills including confidence in dealing with international colleagues/external parties where English is not their first language
  • Time management will be crucial in order to meet deadlines
  • Must be comfortable working both independently and part of a team as and when required
