Job description
Company Secretary
Location: London
Tenure: Permanent, full-time
Salary: £51,277 - £58,345
ActionAid UK is a member of the ActionAid Federation, an international charity that works with women and girls living in poverty.
As part of the ActionAid Federation, we work with women and girls, our partners, and dedicated staff in 43 countries to end violence and fight poverty so that all women, everywhere, can create the future they want.
Are you a UK experienced Company Secretary with a strong track record of providing strategic context for governance and pragmatic, best practice advice?
Can you bring a broad range of Co. Sec. experience from a range of organisations, including the charity sector, to help AAUK evolve best practice across your various stakeholder groups?
Do you enjoy driving through change and self-managing a complex and varied workload?
Are you comfortable in a standalone, 360 role where you will be responsible for the full range of activities from meeting minutes to Trustee recruitment and appraisal to providing advise on legal matters?
This is a vital and varied role, which holds responsibility for the management of all governance and for advising and supporting the Chair, the Board, sub-committees, the Chief Executive and the Senior Leadership team to ensure that ActionAid UK continues to be a well governed organisation. It is essential that you have a strong understanding of the strategic context for governance in the UK. This includes the legal and regulatory context and the relevant codes of good governance.
We will look to you to present options for strengthening ActionAid UK’s governance and for seeing the suggestions through the approval and implementation stages. It is important that you have an awareness of the approaches to governance in other organisations and sectors and you can use this knowledge to shape AAUK's governance journey. You will be responsible for advising Trustees on key topics and discussions so it is essential that you enjoy continually learning and implementing new ways of working. You will also need to feel comfortable that as a standalone role, you will be responsible for the entire Co. Sec provision from administration to advising on any related legal matters which apply to ActionAid UK’s governance.
Relationship building is vital for this role, as you will work very closely with several groups and individuals, both within and externally to ActionAid UK. We are particularly keen to receive applications from those with strong rapport building, communication and influencing skills.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make an immediate impact on the success of AAUK and to bring your expertise to an organisation that is committed to end violence and fight poverty so that all women, everywhere, can create the future they want.
A word on hybrid working: We are currently piloting a hybrid working model and you can agree the days you work at home with your Manager. However, you are expected to attend induction, team meetings and other events in person. Some roles may require full-time attendance at an office. If this is required, it will be clearly stated in the advert. Our rules around hybrid working may change in 2023 when the pilot ends.
ActionAid is committed to supporting flexible working. If you would like to discuss flexible working options, including the possibility of a job share for this role, there will be space to do so during the interview process.
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging are key to our organisational culture and success. We are on a journey to become not only an anti-racist organisation but one that proudly celebrates the diversity of all applicants and employees. We look forward to you bringing your full self to work, proudly sharing your unique perspective and helping us to shape our combined future.
