POSITION: Employee Relations Manager

LOCATION:

Base location : Crawley / Reading.

We can offer a hybrid approach to office and remote working. Days on Crawley / Reading site would be flexible; we would anticipate 3 days as the standard.

ABOUT YOU

  • You will possess and maintain an excellent understanding of UK Employment Law and have demonstrable skills in building relationships via positive contracting, transparency and trust.

  • You will work effectively in ambiguous situations with objectivity, kindness, pragmatism and commercial acumen.

  • You will be confident and able to conduct difficult and sensitive conversations with managers (including senior management), Trade Union Reps, and employees, both face-to-face and remotely, showing compassion and empathy.

  • You will be a strong influencer at all levels, deploying a range of techniques to ensure a fair, consistent and people focussed approach to identifying and managing risk is taken across the ER case load.

AS A PEOPLE MANAGER YOU WILL:

  • Support and lead a team of ER Specialists and ER Advisors through a period of transformation.

  • Be responsible for the management and on-going development of the ER Specialists and ER Advisors.

  • Motivate and inspire the team; display inclusive leadership, understand the motivations and skills of team members and adjust your style to suit the person and situation.

  • Coach and support the team to resolve high risk, challenging and potentially confrontational situations whilst maintaining and promoting excellent employee relations across the organisation.

  • Provide accurate, timely, balanced and objective feedback which helps individuals identify their own development areas.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This role is responsible for leadership and development of the ER Specialist team supporting Thales businesses within the UK. and the delivery of an ER Specialist service to Thales in the UK.

  • This service principally provides ER expertise to support employees and managers deal informally and where necessary formally with ER matters relating to:. Grievance, Disciplinary, Performance, Absence, Parental Leave, Changes to Contractual Terms along with other employee events.

  • Additionally the ER Specialist team support cases relating to Collective consultations (TUPE, M&A, Restructuring) and work collaboratively with their colleagues within the ER CoE, HRSS and the entire HR function to develop and implement our people policies and processes to provide the best employee experience for our people.

  • Provide expert, trusted and comprehensive advice across the full spectrum of ER issues in a unionised environment and be the first point of escalation for ER Specialists and Advisors.

  • Take a proactive approach to governance and risk management, triaging and allocating work at source and re-prioritising work as necessary.

  • Adopt a consultative approach and build strong relationships across the business and wider HR function, including HR Operations, ER Consultants and wider ER Centre of Excellence, trade union representatives and senior managers.

  • Act as a conduit into the ER CoE and wider HR function ensuring trends, ER hotspots, feedback and information about the employee experience is identified and shared to inform decision making.

  • Effectively implement business change in collaboration with strategic HR e.g. restructuring, acquisitions, TUPE.

  • Provide creative solutions that are implemented in a proactive and credible manner.

  • Be a gate keeper for the Thales People Commitments.

  • Manage relationships with suppliers such as occupational health and income protection providers.

  • Manage delivery of projects against agreed plans in a professional and consistent manner, forging positive working relationships and overcoming difficulties and risks.

  • Provide central governance and guidance for change programmes and consultation activities, utilising ER Team resources effectively and ensuring relevant HR policies and procedures are adhered to in a fair, consistent and professional manner to enable good employee relations to be maintained across the organisation.
