Job Duties

The Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Communications seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Communications Coordinator. This position provides support outreach, engagement, and communications efforts through internal and external communications, project management, and innovative public outreach and community involvement. Targeted audiences include the general public, stakeholders, businesses, civic groups, environmental organizations, local government, legislators, other state and federal agencies, DEQ employees and the media.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability in preparing and presenting complex information in written and oral form for multiple audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to research, write and edit materials such as news releases, fact sheets, FAQs, website content, brochures, presentations and speeches, and other printed and electronic materials
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in creating content for different platforms/channels
  • Experience translating technical language and industry jargon into plain language
  • Ability to collaborate with a wide variety of agency staff (including leadership) on a broad range of topics
  • Demonstrated experience in social media management and content creation
  • Creative approaches to communicating with varied audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar applications to create graphics and layout for digital and print communication materials.
  • Graduation from a college or university with major studies in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related fields.
