Job Summary/Basic Function
The Arts Communication Manager, plans, coordinates, and executes all marketing and communication efforts for Visual and Performing Arts Office events programming in accordance with the University’s EPPIIC values and OVPA’s mission, organizational goals, and strategic initiatives as set by the Director. This position produces and manages all OVPA messaging and supports both internal and external communications, including website, social media, electronic, and hard copy means to ensure success of the OVPA programs and positively enhance the visibility of the University.
Located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Millersville University of Pennsylvania is one of the 10 public universities of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. Annual Salary: $60,917.00 – 69,618.00, plus comprehensive benefits starting on the first day of employment, including:
- Health insurance – Low bi-weekly premium, with coverage starting on the first day of employment for employee and all dependents.
- Dental insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents with coverage starting on the first day of employment.
- Vision insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents with coverage starting on the first day of employment.
- Group life insurance – Equal to annual salary (up to $50,000) at no cost to the employee.
- Voluntary Group Life and Accident Insurance – Available for purchase at low rates for additional employee coverage as well as coverage for spouse and children.
- Long Term Disability Insurance – Available for purchase at low rates with either a 90 or 180-day waiting period.
- Retirement – 2 plans to choose from.
- Tuition waiver – For employee, spouse, and dependents.
- Personal leave – Up to 6 days per year.
- Vacation leave– Up to 10.4 days accrued per year for first year, increases to 15.6 days per year after 1 year.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with major course work in communications, journalism, marketing, arts administration, or another related field.
- Two years full-time experience in one of the following: social media or direct marketing, media relations, advertising, promotions, communications, journalism.
- Experience with the use of social media, electronic and website communications, and the review of analytics.
- Knowledge of journalistic and print production skills, including writing content, editing, layout, design, printing, and photography.
- Strong project planning, organizational, time-management, and proofreading skills. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with media, sponsors, customers, vendors, freelancers, artists, and donors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Successful interview.
- Successful completion of three background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Full-time experience in visual, performing, and/or creative arts and event marketing.
- Experience working in higher education performing arts facility.
- Experience in print project management, production, and distribution.
- Broad knowledge, awareness, and appreciation of visual and performing arts – music, theatre, dance, and visual arts.
Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING
- Serve as central communications coordinator for the visual and performing arts for Millersville University through the creation of marketing plans and promotional materials for OVPA series, performances, and events taking place at the Ware and Winter Centers.
- Institute strategies that encourage attendance by students and diverse audiences and demonstrate how OVPA programming exhibits and impacts the University’s EPPIIC values.
- Identify and implement ways to build OVPA visibility and positively enhance the reputation and brand through the use of communication and marketing mediums.
- Promote the accessibility of facilities and the welcoming experience of events to all students and patrons.
- Serve as primary contact for all media by issuing press releases, hosting press luncheons, building relationships with the regional news, radio, and TV stations- resulting in artist interviews, feature stories and articles, and increased press coverage – and speaking on behalf of the OVPA department.
- Create and manage the development, production, and distribution of the season Arts Brochure, Annual Report, Curriculum Connections, Program books, and all other collateral materials for promotion of OVPA programs and events.
- Create content for e-blasts, digital video screens, posters, flyers, and all outward facing promotional pieces for OVPA performances, events, and activities.
- Oversee, schedule, and manage the use of graphic design students, photographers, videographers, and third-party vendors for printing, design, and editing.
- Adhere to contractual marketing requirements, restrictions, and acknowledgements.
- Archive communications and marketing assets for efficient reference.
- Work collaboratively with Assistant Director of Campus and Community Outreach to develop marketing initiatives which increase student audiences, classroom connections, and faculty awareness of programs and events.
- Work cooperatively with Box Office Manager to coordinate ticket sales, ticketing processes, website compatibility, and the patron ticketing experience. Assist with the creation of the ticketing pages, event details, and special promotions and discounts.
- Work in conjunction with University Marketing and Communications to ensure consistent application of MU branding and use of MU’s design, website, and social media services.
- Stay current on best practices and industry standards for visual and performing arts marketing and communications.
SOCIAL MEDIA & WEBSITE
- Establish and oversee social media presence, including identifying trends and best practices.
- Monitor postings and actively engage the OVPA audience in a variety of social media platforms supporting the promotion of OVPA programming and events.
- Create content and implement weekly e-communications to OVPA audiences.
- Create and manage ArtsMU website content, ensuring user-friendly attributes and accessibility features.
BUDGET/ANALYTICS/INCOME GENERATION
- Yearly compilation and management of the Arts Marketing Budget, with monthly review and adjustments made as needed.
- Support activities and create materials which increase revenue generation for OVPA, including ticket sales, program advertisements, partnerships, group sales, special events, on-line giving, and fundraising.
- Responsible for ensuring sales goals are met.
- Maintain accurate and current patron data base, review purchasing trends, create surveys, and use information to better improve customer service.
- Analyze data from analytical sources to assess Return on Investment for reach, impact, and better strategic use of marketing dollars.
