BONUS: Upon hire, you will receive a one-time signing bonus of $500 on your first paycheque after your employment commences. At six months of employment, you will receive a second lump sum of $500.

Reporting to the Manager of Communications and Public Relations, the Communications Coordinator is responsible for the successful implementation of DeafBlind Ontario Services’ (DBOS) and Foundation’s (DBOF) communications, marketing and public relations strategies, campaigns, and initiatives to increase engagement and awareness, with specific emphasis on internal communication and events.

YOUR ROLE
- In collaboration with the Employee Experience Specialist, creates and implements an internal communications strategy to engage employees in support of strategic objectives.
- Plans and executes logistics for all internal events, including employee service award celebrations, as well as signature events. Develops event-related marketing collateral, scripts/messaging and media releases.
- Supports the Communications Specialist on national and international events such as National Deafblind Awareness Month, as well as the implementation of communication programs, including direct mail, social media, website and other media relations when required.
- Maintains compliance with brand standards in all publications, materials, and internal / external communications.
- Supports managers in efforts to engage local community contacts (accessibility committees, OHTs, etc.).
- Contributes marketing support for projects as required.
- Maintains a positive organizational reputation with the public, people supported, stakeholders and the community.
- Promotes the values of the organization within the workplace and in the community by demonstrating positive and professional relationships with other agency staff, families, volunteers, advocates, and employers.
- Reports all unsafe conditions, hazards or practices, accidents and incidents in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Act and adheres to all Health and Safety requirements within DeafBlind Ontario Services’ policies and procedures and provincial legislation.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- College diploma in communications, marketing, or related field.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in communications or public relations, preferably in the non-for-profit sector, including experience creating print and online content for marketing communications purposes.
- Proven experience of successful event, sponsorship, marketing, public relations, website and business development / relationship program execution.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of communications principles, practices, and techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly and succinctly.
- Working proficiency with Content Management Systems (WordPress) platforms, SEO, tracking and reporting web metrics (Google Analytics) and social media (Sprout Social).
- Strong technical skills with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
- Ability to develop creative materials.
- Proven ability to capture and edit photographs and videos.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload within a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working effectively within a team as well as independently.
- Fluency in French is an asset.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle, and the ability to travel.
