Job description

About us

We are a professional, customer-centric, supportive organisation and our goal is to exceed our members' expectations whilst working in a fun, collaborative environment.

This role includes:

  • Growth opportunities
  • On-the-job training
  • Flexible working hours

In this role you will be providing communications and administrative input to enable the successful delivery of our communications strategy. This will include internal communications as well as producing content for a wide range of channels including social media (currently Facebook, Twitter and YouTube), email, magazine articles, press releases, blogs and vlogs, and contributing to video and podcast content. This is a multi-faceted, exciting position for someone who enjoys a fast-paced creative environment with the opportunity to contribute ideas within a busy communications team.

You should demonstrate excellent attention to detail and have a drive to develop and learn. You’ll be a level-headed communicator with great organisational and time management skills. You’ll need to manage often conflicting demands and to be able to prioritise your workload accordingly. You should also be proactive and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You will know how to maintain a wide range of record keeping to ensure the effectiveness of our communications.

If you can also work to the highest standards, demonstrating resilience to pressure and retaining due professionalism at all times, then this job is for you.

This is a new role so we’re ready to welcome your ideas and your views as we develop our communications channels and content. You’ll be joining a team that will embrace your ideas and support and encourage you.

We understand that not everyone will be able to meet all the criteria fully from day one, so we are looking for potential as well as experience and skills, and we will offer on-the-job support and training to the successful candidate.

The role can be carried out remotely but we would like you to come into the office occasionally for meetings, as well as attending events across the country as necessary.

Key tasks - you will:

  • Create and schedule inspiring and creative content for our social media channels to engage members and attract non-members
  • Propose new ideas and concepts for social media content and support our expansion into new social channels
  • Maintain the Society’s social media channels, including providing timely responses to comments and questions, and ensuring consistent messaging and brand voice across all platforms
  • Produce a monthly report into the effectiveness of our social media channels
  • Write, review and edit content for the website, ensuring it is accurate, up to date, engaging and compliant with brand and house style guidelines
  • Upload web content and help to develop new web sections to reach targeted audiences
  • Write regular email updates to volunteers and members across a range of subjects
  • Keep logs of content created and the channels we have used, helping us to analyse the effectiveness of campaigns and channels
  • Assist with our media liaison and use analytics and information from our media monitoring agency
  • Attend and provide communications support for our events

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience of using social media in a professional communications setting
  • Able to repurpose content across many on- and off-line channels, using the right tone for different audiences
  • Knowledge of CMS and website systems
  • Confident with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Experience of working in a professional team to deliver a communications programme
  • Experience of managing and delivering multiple projects to deadline
  • Able to work quickly and accurately
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An understanding of how communications can support an organisation’s growth, including our key audiences, and how to evaluate communications
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with colleagues and externally
  • Integrity, reliability and an understanding of working with both confidential information and within GDPR guidelines
