Overview:
The Royal Society of Chemistry has an exciting opportunity for a Commissioning Editor to join our Books team in a dynamic, fast moving publishing environment, on a temporary basis.
As Commissioning Editor, you will work within the materials chemistry portfolio of our Books Commissioning team on books from concept through to publication. You will commission book titles in the chemical sciences in accordance with our strategic plans, working closely with authors, editors and reviewers, assess projects for publication and ensure that these are marketed effectively to end users.

We are looking for:
- Experience of commissioning and acquiring content.
- A good honours degree in science (chemical science normally preferred) or relevant STM publishing experience is essential.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills and proven ability to work in a team.
- Previous experience of working with academics and/or members of the scientific community
- Good organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and be responsible for own workload.
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
- Postgraduate experience and/or practical experience in STM publishing is desirable.
