This year is huge for Oru with the launch of our Sutton site and the team is expected to grow to over 140 in time.Job OverviewWe are looking for a passionate hospitality professional to join the Kitchen team as Commis Chef at our Brand New Sutton Cafe, due to launch in November 2023!We believe in a collaborative kitchen and are looking for a passionate Commis Chef to assist our kitchen team in running our busy day service then a more refined restaurant service after a few months. Our menus are inspired by Sri-Lankan cuisine as one of our founders is Sri Lankan and wanted to share his passion for the delicious and nutritious cuisine of his heritage. You can find examples of our delicious food offerings on our website.Responsibilities and DutiesAs a Commis Chef at Oru Space, your primary responsibilities will include:Prepare ingredients, including washing, chopping, and measuring, as per the recipes and guidelines provided by the senior chefs.Assist in cooking and plating dishes, following standard recipes and presentation guidelines, under the supervision of more experienced chefs.Maintain cleanliness and organization of your designated station, ensuring all tools and equipment are in working order and properly stored.Assist in monitoring and controlling food stock levels, informing senior chefs when supplies are low and participating in stock rotation.Adhere to all food safety and hygiene standards, including HACCP guidelines, to ensure a safe and clean kitchen environment.Familiarize yourself with the restaurant's menu and recipes, striving for consistency and quality in every dish prepared.Assist in plating dishes, paying attention to presentation, portion control, and quality to meet the restaurant's standards.Work closely with the kitchen team, coordinating tasks, and communicating effectively to ensure a smooth service.Continuously learn and develop your culinary skills and knowledge by observing, asking questions, and seeking guidance from senior chefs.Prioritize tasks efficiently to meet service and prep timelines, contributing to a smooth and organized kitchen operation.Participate in daily cleaning routines, maintaining a tidy kitchen workspace, and ensuring the cleanliness of equipment and utensils.Taste and evaluate dishes to maintain consistency and address any quality issues, promptly reporting concerns to senior chefs.Collaborate with senior chefs to order necessary ingredients and supplies, keeping track of stock levels and ensuring timely restocking.Contribute ideas and suggestions for new dishes or improvements to existing ones, fostering creativity and innovation in the kitchen.Be ready to perform other kitchen tasks as needed, including assisting with special events, catering, or other culinary projects.Qualifications and RequirementsTo excel in the role of Commis Chef, you should have:At least 1 year of kitchen experience.A passion for Vegetarian/Vegan or Asian cuisine, or a willingness to explore anddevelop an interest in these culinary styles.Knowledge of food safety regulations and practices.Excellent communication and teamwork skills.A friendly and approachable demeanour, ensuring a positive and productiveworking environment.BenefitsAs well as a competitive salary, we offer many benefits to our staff members such as unlimited hot desking and wellness classes, a free nutritious and tasty meal every shift you work, x2 hot drinks every shift you work, staff parties and so much room for development in your career with our growing business.Value of benefits;Unlimited Hot Desking - £185pmUnlimited Wellness Classes - £105 pmFree Meal on shift - £200pm (full time)Free Hot Drinks - £140pm (full time)TOTAL WORTH - £630 per month for full time employee!We welcome and encourage applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds.
