Commercial Lawyer - Sainsbury's Bank (FTC)
- 12 Month Fixed Term Contract (230000RC)
Location
This is a Hybrid role that can be based out of either of our offices in Holborn, London or Lochside, Edinburgh.
This is a 12 month fixed term contract.
In a nutshell
As Commercial Lawyer, you’ll be working across all parts of the Sainsbury’s Bank business, ensuring that the most effective legal process is followed in relation to the company’s and Bank’s core commercial processes and procurement of goods and services. This will include advising on the right contracting procedures, drafting and reviewing a wide range of contracts, negotiating commercial contracts, working within a team of commercial lawyers and identifying and mitigating risks within the company’s and Bank’s contracting processes.
What you need to do
- To maintain a Bank, and where appropriate, Group perspective when advising on legal issues and decision making in order to ensure the most effective working practices across the different businesses
- Work within a team of legal professionals to help create a high performing team that that takes both reactive and proactive actions to deliver industry leading standards around commercial law
- Support the Bank in drafting and negotiating a range of commercial contracts supporting the Bank’s retail banking, mortgage and insurance businesses
- Providing legal input on the Bank’s internal governance including ensuring that proper governance is followed.
- Work cross functionally with a variety of stakeholders across the Group and to build strong links between the Group Commercial Law team and the Bank
- Advise and support in high profile and complex commercial negotiations
- Support the business in following the right legal contracting compliance procedures to ensure effective contracting, procurement and negotiation. Helping to deliver excellent contractual documentation including drafting key documentation, standard commercial contracting terms and precedents
- Deliver agreed education and legal training to all relevant commercial and Bank business teams
- Work to develop additional areas of expertise relevant to Commercial Law, including but not limited to IP, Data Protection , Technology, Outsourcing and Marketing
- Supporting the Team Leader in using technology and third parties to streamline commercial law processes
What you need to know and show
- Experienced legal professional and likely to be solicitor or barrister but equivalent legal and other professional experience will be considered
- Significant experience of advising on commercial contracts with relevant experience working in the financial services industry
- Proven ability to work cross functionally with a range of stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills to be able to influence colleagues at all levels in a collaborative and constructive manner
- Good understanding of trends in legal practice across relevant business sectors including retail
- Credible and trusted advisor to all stakeholders across the business with a focus on supporting the Bank and ensuring full alignment across Group commercial contracting to take due account of Bank requirements
- Working effectively and collaboratively within the commercial law team and the wider legal team
