Job description

Collections Assistant - Droitwich

Summary

We protect everything from bats to buildings to beaches – and we want to share them with everyone too. But how do we care for our special places, while helping everyone to enjoy them and their fascinating stories? It’s no small task. In fact, it’s a big team effort and it’s why our Collections Assistant  are so important.

You'll work 20 hours, spread across 4 mornings, working 8am - 1pm. You will be working one weekend day each week.

What it's like to work here

This vacancy is included in a trial of the ‘Disability Confident’ scheme (level 1).

If you have a disability, and your qualities, skills and experience are a good fit with the 'Who we're looking for' section below, we will guarantee you either a telephone or face to face interview. Please contact us at [email protected], when you apply, to let us know, quoting the reference number for this vacancy.

This is a great development opportunity, as you'll work across the portfolio, with an amazing team of Collections Assistants and volunteers who are passionate about Hanbury and Greyfriars and the role they play in looking after the two collections. Reporting directly to the Collections and House Manager, you will work alongside a Collections & House Officer, two Collections Assistants and a team of dedicated volunteers. Working across the two properties will give you a wide range of experience working with two very different collections; one is very traditional and one is much more eclectic.

A country retreat in the heart of Worcestershire. The house and garden, originally a stage-set for summer parties, offer a glimpse into life at the turn of the 18th century. Included in the Hall are original wall-paintings by Sir James Thornhill, which are full of drama and politics and show the birth of Georgian society.

The original formal gardens, designed by George London, have been faithfully re-created and complement the relaxed later gardens, with orangery, orchards and walled garden.

No detail will go unnoticed, and you’ll keep a keen eye on everything from the environmental conditions in a room, to signs of wear and tear. You’ll keep accurate records too.

In this visitor facing role, we’d love you to talk to visitors about the work you’re doing, and the collections we have. You'll also be part of the wider team of employees and volunteers, helping to cover where necessary.
