About the Opportunity
Our team specialises in commercial ports, bulk terminals, naval bases, breakwaters and coastal defences, dredging and reclamation, marine off-loading facilities and sea water intakes and outfalls.
We support a wide range of major UK and international clients across the maritime, defence, energy and transport sectors.
Our 100+ excellent Ports Maritime UK team is part of a wider global team with over 500 specialist maritime engineers with premier skill and experience in marine design and specification.
Our Maritime team are experiencing a rapid growth in the use of hydrodynamic modelling and CFD for analysis of coastal structures, overtopping assessments, scour and rock protection design, ship mooring studies, floating vessel response, and hydraulic structures.
Job Responsibilities
- Undertake analysis and modelling (1D, 2D and 3D) of waves, tide and wave-driven hydrodynamics, sediment transport and coastal
- Undertaking CFD modelling including wave loads on coastal and offshore structures, overtopping analysis, assessment of floating bodies, industrial outfalls and intakes, hydraulic structure design.
- Contribute to the production of client deliverables such as technical reports
- Undertaking checking of models and reports by others,
- Work closely with peers and mentors to plan and develop your career and to support the development of others within the team.
- A minimum level 2:1 MEng degree (or equivalent) in a coastal/ maritime/ numerical modelling relevant discipline ideally with a relevant Masters or post-graduate qualification.
- Desire to learn new skills and further develop your existing modelling abilities.
- Experience in CFD, preferably in maritime/coastal applications and/or Experience in the use of software such as MIKE by DHI, SWAN, Delft3D or TUFLOW
- Good academic knowledge in waves, tidal hydrodynamics and sediment transport in open coasts and estuaries
- Skilled in use of GIS software such as Mapinfo/ArcGIS/QGIS
- Computer programming ability e.g. Python, R, Matlab, C++ etc
