EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Head Coach Position – Full Time
The Powell River Gymnastics & Circus Arts Centre is located on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in BC where endless green mountains meet sheltered Pacific Ocean waters. Powell River is approximately 4 hours (2 ferry rides) north of Vancouver and a ferry ride away from Courtney on Vancouver Island. We are a non-profit organization with a variety of programs for girls and boys including parent & mini me; preschool & recreational gymnastics; school field trips; birthday parties & special events; adult classes; teen high school gymnastics; trampoline; tumbling; girls & boys developmental & competitive gymnastics. Our club has been in operation for more than 34 years with approximately 250 recreational athletes and 50 developmental and competitive athletes.
We are looking for an energetic, dynamic, Level 3 Certified Coach (or Certified Level 2 with applicable experience and willing to certify Level 3) to join our coaching team as a permanent, full time Head Coach of our Gymnastics Centre. Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will be directly responsible for the development of our athletes in the men’s and women’s gymnastics competitive and developmental programs, and additional programs where needed; as well as taking on some athlete development and coaching administrative duties.
Qualifications include: NCCP Level 3 MAG/WAG or equivalent/willing to obtain; previous experience coaching women’s gymnastics and/or provincial men’s gymnastics; team player; must be reliable, responsible, professional, and self-motivated; strong leadership, and organizational skills; ability to enforce safety rules and regulations in the gym; mentoring junior coaches; plan/develop/implement training sessions; prepare athletes for competition; strong computer skills; must have First Aid, or willing to acquire certification. Office administrative responsibilities will include but are not limited to responding to inquiries via phone, email, and in person; prepare training/rotation/coach schedules; obtain substitute coaches as required; assist with recreational registration; computer entry.
Salary is competitive and negotiable upon experience and qualifications.
The successful candidate will be required to submit references, Police Record Check, provide a copy of their credentials, including Respect in Sport, and Making Ethical Decisions.
