JOB PURPOSE
A fantastic opportunity has now arisen as we are actively seeking to recruit a CNC Setter to join our team at our office in Andover. You will set the production machinery and equipment correctly to achieve the output rate needed to complete the production plan and you will machine metal components from raw billets working to the standards specified to ensure quality and ensure on-time delivery of goods.
We are looking for a hard-working individual who will be responsible for the set-up and operation of CNC Lathe and Mill machines to ensure high-quality components for our products and who will most importantly match the values we aspire to achieve at R E Thompson.

JOB DETAILS
Location: Andover
Hours: Monday to Friday 8am-5pm or 2-week shift pattern (see below)
Week one: 06.30 to 18.30 Tuesday to Monday
Week two: 11.00 to 18.30 or 06.30 to 14.00
Pay: Competitive & negotiable based on previous experience and capabilities
We pay a 'blended rate' for all hours worked on the 2-week shift pattern. The rate takes account of 'premium' hours worked over the 2-week shift e.g., weekends.
Reports: Production Manager
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Setter
- Set production machinery and equipment.
- Perform product changeover, setups and run established tooling to the manufacturing. specification, within production time targets.
- Diagnose and correct running faults in a timely manner.
- Control the process to maximise output but minimise scrap.
- Maintain and improve machine efficiencies: perform basic maintenance task to ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
- Identify tool preparation requirements and communicate these and any defects to tooling technicians via the tooling sheet.
- Complete quality checks and maintain product quality standards in line with QA specifications.
- Manufacture the product to the required standards and record all data as required by the quality standards.
- Able to lift and remove heavy parts onto machines.
- Conduct in-process inspection, ensuring quality of parts is to the required standard.
- Ensure machines are maintained at the highest level possible for efficient running (topping up coolant and oil as required).
- Maintain and improve machine efficiencies: perform basic maintenance task to ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
- Communicate any problems or opportunity for improvement to your manager/team leader.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- No specific qualifications are needed although any gained in a similar job role will be beneficial.
- Previously worked in an engineering company using machinery.
- CNC Setter experience & Operator experience.
- Tooling knowledge and able to set up machines.
- Excellent eyesight and hand/eye co-ordination.
- Able to stand and concentrate for long periods of time.
Desirable
- Previous experience working in a manufacturing engineering environment (ideally aerospace/ motorsport manufacturing environment).
- Able to interpret, read and understand internal drawings.
- Inspect 1st offs, spotting any problems and resolving.
- Lean manufacturing experience & Operational programming knowledge.
- Fanuc G code, Mill/Turn, 5-axis milling.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes & geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing.
KEY SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
- Hand-Dextrous; good with both hands and good hand-eye coordination.
- Good eyesight and strong attention to detail.
- Able to show an organised methodical way of working.
- Excellent interpersonal skills & collaborates well in a small team and with a range of people.
- Able to operate with minimum supervision in a complex environment.
- Excellent listening skills and able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Good proficiency with computers.
- Able to maintain tidiness and order around work area.
