The Centre for Continuous Manufacturing and Advanced Crystallisation (CMAC) is a world-class centre of excellence for advanced crystallisation and pharmaceutical manufacturing research, training, and translation. Working in partnership with industry, CMAC’s goal is to transform the development and manufacture of medicines through the development and exploitation of digital design and advanced manufacturing technologies. Our portfolio of activity is focussed on four key pillars to deliver: high quality manufacturing research; the workforce of the future through skills development and training; effective translation of research into industry and, to continue to develop our world leading facilities and Lab of the Future infrastructure. Further details can be found in our 2021-2026 Strategy (www.cmac.ac.uk).
CMAC’s extensive research portfolio includes the flagship EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) Future Manufacturing Research Hub, the Made Smarter Innovation – Digital Medicines Manufacturing Research Centre (DM2) and the EPSRC Digital Design and Manufacture of Amorphous Pharmaceuticals (DDMAP). These projects are delivered in partnership with a wide range of academic collaborators in the UK and abroad as well as industrial partners from across the global pharmaceutical sector.
Given the extensive range of data driven research, CMAC is now seeking to grow our core centre team to provide support across the range of active research projects. Applications are invited for a highly motivated, enthusiastic Data Scientist specialising in data analysis, informatics, and data management solutions. This role will support staff and students with their data requirements and ensure all research data are stored in a format that maximises their future value. In addition, this role will also involve data science support for various projects within the CMAC portfolio. Tasks will include data cleaning, extraction, loading and modelling. The successful candidate will have a proven record of data science experience in a university environment or similar.
You will have an HNC/HND in a relevant subject with experience of, and ability to support, computer-based instrumentation systems within a laboratory environment. Knowledge of more bespoke systems such as MATLAB, R, Python, LabVIEW, or programming experience is also essential. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate independent decision-making, in addition to prioritisation and scheduling their own workload. The candidate must have strong problem-solving abilities, demonstrating innovation and creativity in dealing with IT and data management challenges.
This is an exciting and challenging position that will provide an ambitious and committed candidate with the opportunity to broaden their data science knowledge within a vibrant environment working on ambitious collaborative projects at the academia-industry interface to deliver real impact. The successful candidate joins a growing centre staff and will also have line management responsibility for IT technical support in CMAC.
Formal interviews for this post will be held in May 2023.
