About the role
Under the guidance of senior clinical and non-clinical researchers, the post holder will be responsible for providing medical oversight within ongoing studies, particularly in relation to the dose and type of prescribed therapies, participant safety during exercise testing and training, and oversight of other physiological assessments where required (e.g. skeletal muscle/adipose tissue biopsy, measures of insulin sensitivity etc). They will also contribute to the design and development of new study protocols, data analysis and preparation of research outputs including journal articles and conference abstracts, in both a supporting and lead capacity as appropriate. All necessary training will be provided.During their tenure, the successful candidate will be expected to take up a postgraduate research degree (MD or PhD) within the Diabetes Research Centre and participate in generic postgraduate research training at the University of Leicester.
The appointed individual will join the Leicester Lifestyle and Health Research Group, as part of the Lifestyle Theme of the prestigious NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and will be based at the Leicester Diabetes Centre (Leicester General Hospital). The Centre is internationally recognised for its research in diabetes, obesity, and lifestyle behaviours, and also hosts the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) East Midlands, the NIHR Patient Recruitment Centre: Leicester, and the Centre for Ethnic Health Research.
