This is an exciting opportunity to join the Mental Health in Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) Team. The MHID Team is currently recruiting to a full time, Band 7 Clinical Psychology position.
The MHID Team is one of four streams within the exciting and developing National and Specialist CAMHS Service for Complex Autism and Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorders (SCAAND). The post holder will play an integral role in the provision of assessment, intervention, supervision and service evaluation and development to meet the needs of young people and their families.
The postholder in this Band 7 Clinical Psychology post will work closely with the Senior Clinical Psychologists and colleagues within the multi-disciplinary MHID Team to provide specialist and comprehensive assessment and evidence-based interventions for children and young people with complex neurodevelopmental conditions, intellectual disability and associated mental health difficulties.
The MHID Team is a supportive multi-disciplinary team including a Consultant Psychiatrist, Speciality Registrar in Psychiatry, Principal Clinical Psychologist, Senior Clinical Psychologists, Assistant Psychologist, an Occupational Therapist and Speech and Language Therapist, an NAS Senior Educational Psychologist and a both a Team Administrator and an Administrator with Assistant Psychologist Duties. There are close links with the 3 other streams within SCAAND, as well as opportunities for collaboration with other National and Specialist CAMHS teams regarding group interventions. The team facilitates placements and teaching for those training within clinical psychology, psychiatry and occupational therapy disciplines.
The post within the MHID Team is based at the Michael Rutter Centre for Children and Young People, on the Maudsley Hospital site in South London. Our Trust headquarters is located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2) and is within walking distance from the beautiful green spaces of Ruskin park and the vibrant high-street that offers great shopping opportunities and with a wide range of restaurants.
This band 7 post involves a balanced combination of multi-disciplinary assessment work with young people with complex needs (including ADOS-2 assessments, cognitive, psychometric and neuropsychological testing and also young person and parent interviews) and intervention cases within a CAMHS outpatient model. Intervention is varied, ranging from direct work with young people with a range of presentations and needs, work with their parents or carers (informed by Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) principles) and joint work with other agencies and disciplines. Intervention care planning and delivery is also supported by the multi-disciplinary complex formulation meetings held within the team. The MHID Team also provides professional consultations to other agencies or services around the child or adolescent and their family. The post holder will have opportunities for supervision with an Assistant Psychologist or Trainee Clinical Psychologists within the team.
