Band 7 Clinical /Counselling Psychologist

Tower Hamlets Talking Therapies (THTT) is one of the leading national IAPT services and we are keen to recruit an experienced Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist who will be part of a Relational Therapies team working alongside psychological therapists trained in a range of therapies including Brief Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) EMDR, person-centred and Group Interventions.

These vacancies are offered as 1.0 fte x permanent post, with the expectation that all clinical staff work one late evening per week (11am until 7pm). We are able to consider applicants with a preference for working part time / job share. If you were interested in this position as a remote position, this would be offered on a fixed term basis. The post holder will be part of a very dynamic team and will work alongside therapists trained in a range of therapies including systemic and couple therapies, EMDR, CBT, DIT, psychodynamic and integrative therapies and a well- established PWP team.

We also have a dedicated team working with physical health related problems and long term conditions; this offers those who work with our team plenty of opportunities to enhance their job satisfaction by learning more about this area and developing skills in working with this population.

The post holder should come with highly developed assessment and therapy skills relevant to working in a Primary Care IAPT service. In addition to your core training, you would ideally also be trained and a qualified practitioner in at least one of the following NICE recommended high intensity therapies: Couples Therapy for Depression, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). We will also consider those with a good track record in evidence-based brief psychodynamic therapy as relevant to a primary care setting.

The post holder should come with highly developed assessment and therapy skills relevant to working in a Primary Care IAPT service. The post-holder will have relevant professional registration e.g. HCPC- registered practitioner psychologist, UKCP - full clinical membership, British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) - registered member, British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) – registered member. We are able to consider applicants who are in the process of obtaining their professional registration.

Ideally, candidates will also be trained and qualified to practice in at one of the NICE recommended high intensity therapies: Couples Therapy for Depression, Counselling for Depression, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). We will consider applicants with a good track record in evidence-based brief psychodynamic and integrative therapy as relevant to a primary care setting.

The post holder will also carry out telephone assessments in order to establish suitability for the service and work collaboratively with the client to design a package of interventions or sign-post to other services if not suitable. The post holder will work with people from different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary. The service is currently operating mostly remotely, with some face to face work being offered.

The post holder will work in various community settings (including GP surgeries), and provide short term (8-12 sessions) NICE recommended psychological interventions at Step 3 to clients presenting with a range of depression and anxiety symptoms. As a member of the Relational team the post holder will co-facilitate groups based on psychodynamic principles and contribute to the expansion of the group programme.
