Job description
Promptly Schedules those diagnostic tests and or procedures in a timely and efficient manner, to ensure maximum reimbursement is received for services provided. Obtains pre-cert/authorization numbers and enters in the scheduling or registration system; obtains and enters accurate insurance information; answers incoming phone calls.
Responsible for scheduling all designated diagnostic and procedural tests as defined by the organization and obtaining all necessary billing and insurance information. Processes all requests in a timely and efficient manner performing all associated duties in order to ensure completeness and correctness of all tests scheduled. Obtains all information necessary to complete requests with minimal error.
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of insurance requirements. Performs duties with a minimum of supervision; exhibits innovation and good judgment as well as a thorough knowledge of ethical and legal billing procedures. Maintains all documentation and records in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Perform next-day insurance verification and benefits verification. Ensures all test schedules are properly documented and profiled for future reference. Follows through with all issues identified as requiring action and performs follow-up responsibilities to ensure all scheduled tests have the appropriate pre-certification numbers, etc.
Answer telephone calls, correspondence and personal inquiries from patients, providers and third-party payers on a daily basis. Assists each person promptly, efficiently, and courteously. Follows through on all issues identified as requiring action as a result of the inquiry.
Inform the physician's office staff or patient of any testing requirements according to the instructions and queries in the scheduling module.
Work closely with the physician office staff to ensure that pre-cert/authorization numbers are entered in the scheduling or registration system
Maintain open communication with the registration staff regarding those unscheduled patients presenting for services to ensure appropriate testing is performed and times are available.
Works with physician offices and departments of the hospital providing information when necessary, or forwarding relevant documents to them
Qualifications
Minimum Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Prior scheduling experience is preferred with insurance knowledge of the authorization process and/or experience. Proficiency in the operation of computers and related equipment. Must also possess excellent mathematical skills, oral and written communication skills and organizational skills. Must be able to communicate in a pleasant and tactful manner to other employees and patients.
