Job description
The City of Newport Beach seeks highly motivated individuals to join the Public Works Department. Currently there are two flexibly staffed vacancies that may be filled at either the Junior Engineer or Associate Civil Engineer level depending on the applicant's qualifications. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future full-time and part-time vacancies as they occur.
SELECTION COMPONENTS:
- Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review date of June 20, 2023. The recruitment will remain open until the position is filled.
- Virtual Interview: Candidates deemed most qualified as reflected in their application will be invited to a virtual interview.
SCHEDULE:
- This position may work a 5/40, 9/80, or 4/10 schedule.
SALARY:
- Junior Engineer Full-Time: $6,948 - $9,783 monthly
- Junior Engineer Part-Time : $39.16 - $55.09 hourly
Associate Civil Engineer Full-Time : $8,069 - $11,348 monthly- Associate Engineer Part-Time : $43.53 - $61.29 hourly

CalPERS:
The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement Systems (CalPERS) Retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 11.5% of pay toward the retirement benefit.

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Junior Engineer:
Education: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a closely related field.
License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
Certification as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) by the State of California is desirable.
Associate Civil Engineer:
Education: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
License/Certificate: A valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) from the State of California is required.
Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
