Job description
Who do you think of when you think about the people working to make our country a better place to live? Doctors; Nurses; Police Officers; Firefighters; Teachers….
What if we told you that the main aim of Civil Enforcement Officers (more fondly known as Traffic Wardens or Parking Attendants) is to reduce pollution and ensure the safety of the local community? Our Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) play a key role in keeping both the roads and air clear too!
Here at NSL, we’re the “parking people”; but we’re also so much more than that. Our team of highly trained frontline colleagues and back-office support team members provide outsourced business services to the public and private sectors. These include comprehensive parking and street management solutions. You’ll probably know us best as the friendly faces you see around your local neighbourhoods and high streets.
Here's a few things you can expect from your job as a Civil Enforcement Officer:
- You’ll be helping people. Not what you expected from this type of role, right? We like breaking stereotypes over here.
- Yes, you’ll be issuing parking tickets – The money generated from these tickets is used by local government to improve the community such as road repairs and free bus travel for the elderly and disabled.
- You’ll get your 10,000 steps in everyday because there’s lot of walking! There’s no desk cramp and no fuzzy computer eyes. Instead, expect your fitness to improve and plenty of fresh air. If you’re an outdoors person, we want to hear from you.
- On that note, you’ll be working outside. And you’ll really need to love the outdoors because we’re out and about come rain, hail or shine. The rain doesn’t stop the valuable work our CEOs do!
- You won’t have targets for issuing tickets. And despite popular misconception, we’re not out to ruin anyone’s day. Our mission is to create a positive impact on the local community.
- You’ll have the best of both worlds. If you’re a team player, great. If you like working alone, great. You’ll have regular team meetings to keep you connected to your colleagues and then get to work independently throughout the day.
Fresh air, exercise and having a positive impact on the local community; we can see why you’re already sold. But let us tell you about the other great things working for NSL offers.
- We don’t just say we’re an equal opportunities employer; we mean it. From our NSL Inclusion Group to our extensive part-time and flexible working opportunities, we’re keen to hear from candidates from all backgrounds and our team tell us they love the flexibility we offer.
- Many of our managers started out as Civil Enforcement Officers. This role is a great place to start your career with us. We offer extensive learning and development opportunities along the way, including apprenticeships. In recognition of our efforts, NSL is proud to be part of a Platinum accredited Investor in People (IIP) employer.
- We support the local community every day of every week, so there’ll always be a shift pattern to suit you whether it be full or part time, during school time, evenings, weekends or nights. Let us know what hours suit you.
- We care about community. During the height of the pandemic, our CEOs delivered food and care packages to vulnerable people in the local community, and we’ve also won an award for our work with charities aimed at reducing homelessness. That’s just two of the many rewarding projects our team have been involved in over the years!
Who makes the best Civil Enforcement Officers?
We’d love to hear from enthusiastic and community-focused people who like to keep moving – and we mean that both from a physical movement perspective and a career progression one, too!
Customer service experience would be useful but - most importantly - the ability to communicate confidently with people from all walks of life will ensure your success in this role. You’ll also find that being naturally organised and self-motivated will go a long way in making your days a bit easier.
Whether you’re looking to swap your desk-job for a steps-job – or you’re looking to start your working life in a truly rewarding role which offers a healthy lifestyle as a (pretty phenomenal) by-product, our Civil Enforcement Officer role could be the perfect fit for you.
To speak to one of our recruitment colleagues or discuss how your skills or experience may suit the role, apply online today and a member of the team will be in touch soon. As part of our ongoing commitment to excellent service in every aspect of our work, every single applicant will receive a response.
