Residential Support worker - Children's Home
Salary: £23,000 - £29,000 a year

We provide 24-hour residential care and support to children and young people between 11-17 years of age, some of whom may have challenging emotional or behavioural difficulties.

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Establishing meaningful relationships and providing practical/emotional support to the children/young people living with us. Contribute towards the provision of a secure, stable and supportive environment that enables our residents to build the life-skills and resilience needed to make the transition from living in care to living independently.
2. To support the children/young people with their daily routines and care needs in line with their assigned care plan. Act as a good role model for the children and young people in the Home, offering good advice, guidance and assistance when needed.
3. To support children and young people to make their own choices and decisions, ensuring that their needs and wishes are fully considered in decisions relating to them. To enable children/young people to develop their social skills, and to access educational and leisure activities and promote their participation in these.
4. To ensure the protection of the children and young people from significant harm, by, observing changes in children’s behaviour or appearance and complying fully with the Home’s Safeguarding & Child Protection policy.
5. You will be responsible for:
- Contributing to risk-assessments,
- Weekly one to one key-working with the young people,
- Writing progress reports,
- Maintaining accurate and up to date daily records
- Attending meetings with external professionals and other duties allocated to you.
6. Being knowledgeable of and following relevant policies and procedures to ensure the smooth running of the Home.
7. To support the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager with:
- The running of the Home,
- Flagging areas of concern with the manager as they arise.
- Taking initiative to promote the daily care and experience of young people.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Flexibility to work 12-hour shifts during day times, wake nights and weekends.
- Willingness to study and complete further training as identified by the manager with a minimum of Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare achieved by all Support Workers.
- Enhanced DBS signed up to the update service.
- You must be at least 22 years old or above to apply as per children’s homes regulations
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma/NVQ Level 3 / 4 – residential child care or equivalent preferred
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Prior experience working in a residential care setting with children / young people with EBD
- Ability to relate well to children and young people
- Working knowledge of safeguarding & child protection practice
- Knowledge and experience of 1:1 Key-working
- Confident I.T. skills (including Word, Excel and use of e-mail)
- Good time management and organisational skills
- Ability to cook, clean and take initiative with domestic tasks.
