About the job
We are looking for a Development Chemist to join our team at our site in Edinburgh. In this role you will be conducting R&D activities working largely independently with some direction from your line manager, project or technical leads. You will be responsible for delivering experimental output and projects with a high degree of scientific integrity. You will ensure that all project deliverables are both on time and on target, to a high quality under minimal supervision but you will receive support from our project leaders and technical leads.
Your responsibilities
·To exhibit safety awareness conducting lab and other operations in a safe manner holding yourself accountable for safe behaviour.
· Ensure the safe and effective scale-up of processes and process modifications to SSM and/or full-scale plant.
· Working within the JM Quality System, carrying out scientific work as in line with this standard.
· Keeps accurate, legible and complete records of all experiments, observations and equipment.
· Follows all SOPs
· Produces development and technical reports, SOP’s and other documents to the required standards.
· Develop manufacturing processes to target APIs – identifying and optimising the key process parameters.
· Provide technical and analytical support during process commissioning and technology transfer of new (contract manufacture) or optimised processes to Production.
· Carry out plant investigations to solve Production manufacturing problems associated with process robustness.
· Represents the Developments department in cross departmental business projects.
· Assists in the development of analytical methods and prepare authentic specimens
· Contributes to the design of experimental procedures and exercises technical judgement in the execution of procedures within the required timeline.
· Demonstrates the ability to collect the relevant data, recognise patterns, and draw appropriate conclusions identifying problems from multiple information streams working under the guidance of Project or technical leads to recommend potential courses of action.
· May supervise and plan experimental work for industrial placement students ensuring delivery of project targets in expected timeframes. Evaluate results and provide guidance where necessary.
· Demonstrates an ability to multi-task on a range of different activities differentiating between urgency and importance seeking guidance where required.
What you need for the role
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a chemistry related discipline or pharmaceutical science.
