Reporting to: Technical Director
Qualifications: Minimum BSc or HND Chemistry
Hours: 0800 to 1700 (one-hour break) Occasional Saturdays (mornings only) and overtime as required
Experience: Minimum 1 years as hazardous waste chemist.
Role involves mainly working in a covered warehouse, with some work in a laboratory and with a computer.
Site Chemist, you will be responsible in bringing value to the business by accepting and inspecting all incoming and preparing outgoing loads of Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste by following the relevant regulations and site procedures.
Site Chemist role:
1. Ensuring all incoming consignments of wastes have appropriate paperwork.
2. Responsible for the completion of waste safety checks to allow acceptance to site, storage safety and processing and onwards transfer.
3. Waste acceptance is recorded using our internal computer system (QCpro) - training given.
4. Responsible for the completion of regular sampling of received waste to then further supply to internal laboratory for analysis.
5. Maintaining an accurate stock inventory of waste on site utilising internal computer system.
6. Ensuring loads are prepared ready for despatch utilising our internal computer system.
7. Liasing with the management team to ensure waste is processed through the transfer station efficiently.
8. Ensuring waste is routed such that costs are minimised whilst maintaining legality and compliance.
9. Ensuring all waste is labelled correctly with all relevant information.
10. Liasing with supervisory staff and other site chemists to ensure waste is processed correctly and safely – to include bulking, sorting, segregating, listing and packing of wastes ready for despatch.
11. Preparing loads of waste ready to go out ensuring waste is correctly labelled and packaged and checking paperwork has been prepared with the correct information ready for despatch.
12. Provide technical support to other members of staff on site.
13. Complete relevant outgoing paperwork.
14. Occasional cover for other similar staff with the same skill set to include:
a. Laboratory work including
i. Flash point testing*
ii. Use of XRF*
b. Off-site listing, sampling and packing of chemicals.
Role requirements:
- An organised self-motivated person with hazardous waste experience.
- The operation of a Rigaku XRF X-ray spectrometer and SETA flash point testing equipment – Training given.
- Ability to analyse chemical data.
- Computer literate conversant with email, internet, word processing and spreadsheet skills e.g. report writing and record keeping. Be able to devise simple forms and spread sheets.
- Leadership – be able to communicate clearly with supervisory and management staff.

Salary: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
