Cheese Knowledge and Training Specialist
The Fine Cheese Co. is a renowned wholesaler, retailer, and exporter of Artisan Cheese. We have been cheese specialists for over thirty years, and from the start we have developed strong relationships with our cheesemakers. We have an extensive catalogue of traditionally made cheese, charcuterie, crackers, condiments, chocolates and other fine foods from across the UK and Europe.
We're seeking an enthusiastic individual to share their knowledge of cheese by delivering training internally to colleagues and externally to our customers. The successful candidate is also responsible for our hand selection programme which will involve travelling to suppliers as part of a knowledge partnership to select cheeses. We're a friendly and busy team, therefore a positive attitude and willingness to work hard are essential!
Duties
- Deliver internal cheese training in-house to colleagues;
o cheese knowledge
o cheesemonger skills
o Academy of Cheese Levels 1 and 2
- Responsible for updating training schedule with input from various departments such as cheese care, technical and health and safety.
- Support the Artisan Direct Team with sampling and client visits.
- Organise and deliver tasting events such as The Wine Society online tastings or other in person events.
- Select and prepare cheeses for trade shows, and attend as requested
- Select and prepare cheeses for photo shoots
- Assist the two retail shops with:
o Selection of cheese range
o Promotions
o In-shop events
- An active member of the cheese quality team who assess cheese for date extension, both organoleptically and by speaking to cheesemakers and technical teams.
- Assist with customer queries and complaints from wholesale, shops, mail order and export.
- Visit suppliers as part of a knowledge partnership, cascading to internal stakeholders on return and in a timely manner.
- Assist with the sourcing of cheese; finding the best quality cheese, with a particular focus on British makers, to provide retail, wholesale and export departments with the most suitable range.
- Assist with the creation of website content.
- Active member of the HACCP Team
- Support the cheese room manager; with the cutting, wrapping, weighing, labelling, and packing of cheese and other chilled goods to fulfil shop, mail order, wholesale and export orders.
- Encourage continued care and quality of the company's cheese on offer, ensuring it is kept to the highest standard and in the best condition pre-sale.

Salary: £25,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
