Job Summary


The Character Artist will produce character artwork for both two dimensional and three dimensional product applications. The role is responsible for generating new character art for XLOB, and providing support on regional EMEA needs and for 3D character art product approvals. Enhancing and growing business, keeping our character equity and storytelling front of mind.

This role is specifically responsible for developing artwork for relevant Characters and providing support on other art requests as needed when directed by the Senior Character Art Manager.

Enhance and grow the GPC business through outstanding and commercial interpretations of Disney Characters, keeping our character equity and storytelling front of mind.

This role manages projects at all levels of complexity, and will build relationships among the art community within GPC at The Walt Disney Company.

This role will require you to be onsite 4 days a week

The Opportunity & Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with Senior Character Art Manager, develop character illustrations for style guides and portfolios across multiple properties and cross divisions

  • Responsible for ensuring the approvals and corrections of character likeness within 2D and 3D products are delivered within the agreed deadline, ensuring consistency, brand integrity and upholding artistic quality

  • Act as a point of contact for the EMEA team for any relevant art queries in terms of brand equity for the business

  • Support with idea generation and develop new art styles and techniques in line with marketplace trends and identify character art white space opportunities

  • Provide artistic direction to external freelance artists, licensees and suppliers as required

  • Encourage sharing across GPC and where possible drive efficiencies. Maximising XLOB initiatives, sharing materials and creative assets, fostering a creative community within GPC

  • Help to develop a character art community across GPC at The Walt Disney Company

The Experience We Require From You:

  • Degree-level education in a related field or equivalent work experience

  • Proven related work experience in graphic design, character art, animation or merchandise design within similar field

  • Demonstrable understanding of principles of cartooning and cartoon animation

  • Demonstrable knowledge of Character Art

  • Proven experience in digital inking and rendering

  • Demonstrable understanding and experience of 2D work and an ability to work in various styles

  • Experience in multiple mediums (sculpting, painting and drawing), beneficial

  • Thorough understanding of all elements of design: illustration, page layout, colour and typography

  • Proven experience of building effective relationships and managing stakeholders within a large, multi-national, matrix organisation

  • Strong working knowledge and efficiency in Adobe applications, especially Photoshop and Illustrator

  • Experience with Keynote and additional creative applications

  • Ability to draw and illustrate in various styles with versatility (traditional and digital methods)

  • An understanding of Disney characters and Disney storytelling and how it translates to product

  • Strong graphic design skills
