Job description
OPRL is at the heart of the packaging recycling transformation in the UK.
Founded in 2009 as a purpose-led not-for-profit, OPRL was created to help consumers recycle better and more often. We have expanded rapidly in recent years to become an acknowledged thought leader in sustainable packaging. A private company limited by guarantee; OPRL collaborates with its guarantors, client members and key stakeholders throughout the packaging value cycle to develop, promote and deliver better practices in the design of more sustainable packaging, the engagement of consumers in reusing and recycling effectively, and the development of infrastructure to enable greater circularity and resource efficiency.
An active member of the UN Global Compact UK Network, OPRL proudly works to demonstrate our core values as an Independent, Pioneering, Expert and Ethical organisation; supporting the Sustainable Development Goals both through our business services and in the way in which we deliver them.
With the retirement of our Chair and founding director, there is now an exceptional opportunity to lead and shape this innovative, trusted, and established organisation as we enter the next stage of our development at an exciting and critical moment for our work.
Our next Chair will play a key role in developing our strategy and leading the organisation through this next phase of growth, and act as a high-level ambassador for OPRL and our work. You will ensure good governance and due consideration of stakeholder interests, as embedded in our articles, to preserve and develop OPRL’s excellent reputation.
A proven commercial leader you will bring demonstrable experience leading businesses in a similarly regulated and evolving environment. Strategic, innovative and highly collaborative, you will have the ability to create a vision and bring stakeholders together to deliver it. Comfortable engaging at the most senior levels within government and business, you will bring an understanding of how to build connections and influence across those spheres.
You will share a genuine commitment to our organisational values, and a strong personal motivation towards our purpose and aims.
To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter, detailing how you fulfil the role description and personal specification quoting reference 6585. The deadline for applications is Friday 26th May, 9:00am BST.
This remit will necessitate a minimum of 2-3 days a month. Remuneration will be £500 per day plus reasonable expenses.
We are committed to equality and inclusivity, and draw strength from diversity in all its forms. Applications are encouraged from all and particularly from individuals from under-represented groups including women, BAME candidates, people with disabilities and others with protected characteristics. One third of our current Board directors are women. Applicants from across the UK are encouraged.
Perrett Laver will conduct an executive search process in parallel with the public advertisement of the role. Longlisted candidates will be invited to interview with Perrett Laver in early June and the Selection Panel will subsequently meet to decide upon a final shortlist for the post in early July.
