The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Our lifeboat crews and lifeguards need a dedicated, professional, and talented team behind them to support them to save lives at sea. And this is where you come in.

About the Role

We are looking for a Central Processing Office Assistant to join our friendly team. Our life-saving service relies on funds generated by our supporters, and you’ll have an equally important part to play providing support within the Central processing department, opening and preparing all our postal responses, ensuring that Supporter donations and requests are processed swiftly and accurately to secure long-term support.

As a Central Processing Office Assistant within our team, your main daily role will be approximately 80% of the time opening envelopes, and the preparation of incoming post and supporter donations. This would be in accordance with current procedures and security standards. You will also support the team to achieve daily deadlines to meet the current Service Level Agreement and team targets. As well as daily targets of opening and preparation of postal responses, you will be required to undertake daily filing and other ad-hoc tasks. Therefore, the ability to prioritise you own workload is key.

Some of the benefits

  • Salary: £21,164
  • Working hours - approx. 8am to 4pm
  • 26 days’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays
  • Outstanding pension scheme (contributions of up to 16% of basic salary)
  • Life assurance
  • Health and dental cashplan

See our summary of benefits document (attached) for more information!

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • General office experience
  • A proactive approach
  • Good attention to detail
  • The ability to work individually using their own initiative, as well as working as part of a successful team
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to self-motivate and enjoys completing the same task multiple times across a day

Due to timings of mailings, in particular appeals and the quarterly lottery, there are various key periods during the year when there is a high volume of work. Therefore, you will be expected to ‘step-up a gear’ at short notice and exceed daily targets, supporting internal and external colleagues helping to maintain all Service Level Agreements.

There will be minimal use of database/computer work therefore previous experience is not required as training will be given if applicable.

In return you’ll join a team that takes great pride in ‘getting it right first time’ knowing that through their efforts, they support the organisation that saves life at sea.

Safeguarding

The RNLI is committed to safeguarding; ensuring the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. We expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment and have a zero tolerance approach to proven incidents of bullying, abuse, harassment or exploitation. The suitability of all prospective employees and volunteers will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment. This will include relevant criminal record checks being carried out dependent on the eligibility of the role. (England & Wales; DBS check, Scotland; Disclosure Scotland PVG, Northern Ireland; Access NI, Republic of Ireland; Garda Vetting; International, International Child Protection Certificate process).

Diversity at the RNLI

Our staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. We respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within our teams, and consider it essential to help us deliver a world-class lifesaving service. We are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, we also look for applicants who share our commitment to living our RNLI values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping us work towards Our Vision: To save Every One.
