Our Water Quality & Environment team have an opportunity for you to join as our Catchment Management Scientist
In your new role you’ll develop and report on the Farming for Water Outcome Delivery Incentive (ODI) and be accountable for the day to day running of Severn Trent farmer support schemes such as STEPs (Severn Trent Environment Protection scheme), Farm to Tap, and Swap Your Nozzles which are delivered as part of the Farming for Water ODI.
You’ll be involved in the management and maintenance of catchment risk assessments that help Severn Trent understand and manage risks to water quality upstream of our abstractions, while providing expertise to the wider business on catchment protection and support to water quality issues at our sources.
Additionally, you’ll engage with a range of stakeholders from the Environmental Agency, and environmental consultants to local farming and Catchment Based Approach groups to develop collaborative and efficient solutions to local water quality risks.
Some of your other key accountabilities will include:
Support the development and update of catchment risk assessments for the companies Drinking Water Safety Plans (DWSP’s)
Analyse water quality and other environmental data through Power B.I, GIS and other data management systems.
Identify research and development opportunities exploring innovative ways to manage new and ongoing water quality issues both within Severn Trent and as part of cross water company research projects.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
We’re seeking our new Catchment Management Scientist to be comfortable building relationships with the Environment Agency and other key stakeholders both internally and externally. While giving them the assurance that catchment management solutions will provide a reliable protection measure against drinking water pollution and developing collaborative solutions to local water quality risks.
To be successful, it’s expected you’ll have an excellent track record in soil science, water quality, hydrology or hydrogeology and excellent communication, networking and analytical skills. You’ll have the ability to work under pressure, solves problems and have an understanding of agricultural and environmental regulations/legislation.
