Job description
Casual Library Assistant
Shaftesbury Library
£10.79 per hour
Fixed Term until 31st December 2023
We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join a dynamic and friendly team based at Shaftesbury Library. There is a requirement to work at nearby libraries including Gillingham, Sturminster Newton, Sherborne and Blandford, as necessary
Libraries are important community resources providing access to books and digital resources for information and pleasure, enabling people to enjoy cultural events, acquire lifelong learning skills, improve their health and wellbeing, and combat social isolation.
The library has a continually evolving role in meeting the needs of the community. Strong customer focus, people skills, digital literacy and adaptability are essential, as is the ability to promote the library and its resources. Activities may include leading a Rhyme Time or under 5’s session; facilitating children’s reading groups, workshops for teenagers, Shared Reading or Reminiscence sessions for adults; and visiting schools and community groups
You should be confident supporting the Library Managers and teams in the running of the library, and able to enthuse about reading. You will be helping customers access information, including through signposting and referral. You will also be a confident user of digital resources including apps and demonstrate an ability to solve digital queries.
NB: You will be unable to view the job description and person specification forms after this vacancy has closed. We cannot accept CVs in place of an application form as we require the same range of information from all our candidates.
