About us

We are looking for staff to come and join our casual team at Reading Museum. Our current demand is for individuals who can work across the museum, including museum galleries, shop, reception desk and events. If you are interested in working with us in this landmark venue, we would like to talk to you about joining our front-line team.


About you

In particular, we are looking for staff who can work flexible hours across the week. This includes being available for occasional evenings and weekends to support staff at museum events and family activity days. We need someone who is an effective communicator, confident and friendly, and gives great customer service, remaining calm under pressure.


About the role

Successful candidates will work across the Museum, including the Museum Shop, and supporting our Reception and Venues team. You will be responsible for the safety and security of the exhibits and a wide variety of visitors, including groups and families. You must show initiative and have a warm and welcoming manner to ensure that every visitor will want to return again and again.


As part of the Museum team you will also be trained to give tours of our Victorian Bayeux Tapestry as well as introductory talks around the Museum, trained to run our Wednesday Rhymetime/ stories session as well as running holiday activities. From time to time you will also help with administrative tasks, including evaluating the views of our visitors and our customer profile.
