Responsibilities:
Apprentice Biometrics Technician” and they will be positioned within the NEC SWS biometrics team. Their role will primarily include working closely with the biometrics Presales, Support and Implementation teams to engage with customers, deliver solutions and supporting them by handling any issues or questions customers may have.
The role includes learning and applying a range of technical skills at various levels, all of which will be provided to the apprentice while they closely shadow members of different teams. Over time they can continue covering duties of different teams or they can specialise as part of a certain team.
The role will require the apprentice to engage with customers either remotely or in person. The level and degree of engagement may vary across different customers. It will include but is not limited to:
- Answering customer questions via email, phone or in person.
- Performing demos remotely or at customer sites.
- Resolving technical issues raised by a customer. This may require to remotely join the customer environment.
Setting up systems at conferences and expos while engaging with new or existing customers
The role requires to resolve issues and faults in customer or internal systems. They will have access to various product documentation and the support ticketing platform to learn about common issues and how to resolve them.
Through training, the apprentice will be taught how to troubleshoot across different products while being able to use various tools.
The apprentice will have to complete compliance training which covers security polices and best practice when it comes to organisational requirements. For example, this would cover suitable approaches when handling customer data, sensitivity on documents, types of information that can be shared with different groups.
There are existing processes and guidelines to navigate the apprentice to effectively and efficiently resolve technical issues. Whether internal or external, these issues can be resolved independently or jointly with members in other teams. Updates and progress must be reported to the relevant members.
The role will include testing products to ensure they are of a high standard. This includes using tools and processes to ensure the software product is of high standard. As an example, this may include hardware benchmarking exercises, quality control testing or replicating a technical issue a customer may have to investigate the source of the problem.
As part of our internal testing infrastructure, the apprentice may also be required to deploy and set up hardware. This includes building servers, setting up cameras, networking, cabling, allowing remote access etc.
The apprentice will use existing processes and measures to escalate any issues or requests while using existing tools and methods to ensure a clear audit trail.
As part of their standard work, they are required to document their actions when dealing with customers.
Essential Qualifications/Experience:
The new revised Level 3 Information Communication Technician Apprenticeship Standard.
Applicant must be UK citizen with SC security clearance in government agencies.
Travel throughout the UK will be required.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a pre-existing right to work and travel within the UK. Documentary evidence will be required.
