Job description
Local Services Caseworker
Salary scale: £24,400.21 to £29,521.46 per annum
Hours/Contract: 37 hours per week - permanent contract
Work base: Office-based role at our city centre office
Closing date: 12th June 2023 at 9am
Our Local Services Department is expanding with the introduction of new projects, and the increase in demand for our existing face-to-face services. We are looking for a Caseworker to join the team.
About the role:
You'll provide advice and casework support to members of the public seeking guidance and support to deal with a range of issues relating to legal problems that people are facing. You’ll work both face to face and on the phone to establish what the client’s issue is, what action has already been taken, ensure all relevant information is collected, help them to directly resolve the issue whenever possible, and provide the best next steps. Our Legal Advice Centre works in Partnership to provide clients with access to one-off pro-bono advice appointments – and this role will offer ongoing Casework support to these clients, and other clients of the Local Advice Services team, where needed.
The enquiry areas in which clients may require advice or casework support via this post include: Consumer, Employment, Energy, Family, Health/Social Care, Housing, Wills, and limited issues within Immigration (OISC Level 1). Our organisation also deals with the enquiry areas of Benefits and Debt, but these are dealt with by other specific Caseworker posts within the business.
You will take referrals from clients across the Local Services department, including clients of the University House Legal Advice Centre who require casework or follow-up support following their remote advice-appointment, clients of the Generalist Advice team who require casework or follow-up support, and any other clients of Citizens Advice Plymouth who require further assistance in line with the remit of the role.
The role is 37 hours a week on a permanent basis, our organisation’s office hours are Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm, and Friday’s are 9am to 4.30pm.
Due to the nature of the role and being a face to face service this role is permanently based at our office at Cobourg House, 32 Mayflower Street, Plymouth, supporting our clients.
We anticipate this role to start in July 2023, with interviews in June 2023.
Who we are looking for:
You will enjoy working with people and have the ability to communicate verbally with people in a clear, non-judgmental and empathetic way. You will be resilient and able to manage conversations with clients with complex needs and sensitive issues.
You will be able to competently use a range of Office 365 programs and keep databases up to date accurately. You will also have to be able to manage a caseload by having excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise your workload based on client needs. You should enjoy working as part of a busy, motivated, and supportive team and be able to adapt well to changing priorities.
You will need to be experienced in advising people and providing casework support such as drafting letters and completing applications and forms in relation to legal matters. It is desirable that you will have some debt advice knowledge as this is a caseworker role and debt issues are commonly overlapping into other issues for clients. Knowledge and experience of legal processes and experience researching and analysing legal issues is essential for this role.
