Role Summary:
We are looking for a caring and empathetic support worker to assist our clients with day-to-day tasks. As a support worker, you will be required to meet with clients to assess their practical and emotional needs, draw up care plans, and help them to live as independently as possible. You may also be required to train family and friends in relevant support techniques and to lead community meetings.
To ensure success as a support worker, you should have excellent interpersonal skills, a passion for helping others, and good leadership skills. A skilled support worker should be able to provide both emotional and physical support when needed to ensure that clients feel in control of their lives.
Support Worker Responsibilities:
- Meeting with clients to discuss their practical and emotional needs.
- Practical needs include essential cleaning, washing, cooking meals, shopping, assisting with bill payments, and adherence of clients to health & safety.
- Enabling and support may include such activities as supervising, monitoring, and coaching to empower service users to be as independent as possible and have control over their own lives. Support Workers may also be required to escort or accompany service users to outings, appointments, or other events.
- Assisting the Senior Support Worker with personalised care plans that best suit the clients' needs.
- Maintain appropriate records to meet the needs of the service, observing and promptly reporting back any changes or concerns in your service user’s circumstances or condition.
- Contribute to and work effectively as part of a team.
- Deliver support in a manner which is sensitive to the service user’s culture, disability, race, age, sexuality, marital or civil partnership status, transgender status, or religion/belief.
- Protect the confidentiality of service users.
- Participate in staff development (including supervision), training and performance appraisals as required.
- Providing emotional support by talking to clients about their needs and listening to their concerns.
- Tending to the healthcare needs of each client.
- Helping clients to apply for jobs, Day centres, and benefits.
- Counselling clients with drug or alcohol addictions.
- Training family members in basic support techniques.
- Helping clients to participate in leisure activities.
- Making case notes and managing the case logbook.
- Any other duties as delegated by line managers.
Support Worker Requirements:
- Ability to workday shifts (8am – 2pm, and/or 2pm-8pm)
- To be able to perform night duties (8pm – 8am), when required.
- Willingness to engage on NVQ Level training.
- A qualification in health and social care is preferable.
- Commitment to helping others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Empathetic with good listening skills.
- Good problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to carry out domestic duties.
- Willingness to assist with basic healthcare practices.
- Patient and emotionally resilient.
- Strong leadership skills.
