Job description
The Knolls Care Centre are looking for a Cook with preferably care home or school catering experience. Applicants with relevant catering experience will also be considered.
We are looking for someone with a can do attitude and a passion for traditional British Meals, Cakes, Bakes, Fortified meals and more. Our Residents our very passionate about their meals and desserts!
The position available is for 3 days a week, working a set shift pattern which includes every Sunday.
The shift hours are from 07:00am until 16:00pm.
Please note that the company does not offer COS or have an apprenticeship program.
Responsible to: Catering Manager & Senior Management
Main Aim
To produce Breakfast, Lunch and Teatime meals and services within the required timescales and standards.
Responsibilities and Duties for the Cook:
- Prepare all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner
- Follow recipes/menu and presentation specifications
- Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
- Maintain a clean working station whilst adhering to health & safety standards
- Assist with the cleaning and organisation of kitchen and equipment
- Restock items as needed throughout the shift
- Adhere to all food hygiene & safety standards and maintain the homes 'Scores on the Door' rating (5)
- Co-ordinate all aspects of kitchen production so food is prepared to agreed standard and time deadlines are met.
- Liaise with Senior Staff to ensure that residents’ dietary needs are being met at all times. Meet with Resident’s and request feedback of meals.
- Ensure stock is secure at all times, stored appropriately, avoiding unnecessary wastage and deterioration of food stuffs.
- In conjunction with Catering Manager be responsible for ordering food stock as and when required.
- Provide direction to the Kitchen Assistants with food prep, cleaning and other tasks
- Supervise all aspects of kitchen control with the assistance of the kitchen assistant; e.g. menus, hygiene, health and safety, staff, cleaning and waste control.
- Ensure that all appropriate records are in place in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation, CQC standards and ensure HACCP is followed at all times.
- Report all complaints to the Homes Manager and Catering Manager. Assisting with investigations when required.
In addition to the above, there are some general requirements that apply to all jobs in the Home:
- Participation in staff meetings
- Participation in the training regime.
- Participation in quality assurance systems (audits)
- Compliance with Company Regulations. You are expected to read and understand those regulations which are applicable to your specific job role.
