Bush House is a 36 bed care home based just outside the beautiful town of Pembroke. Here we value our staff and aim to deliver the highest standards of care to our residents. The individuals we support predominantly have a diagnosis of dementia. However, each resident is cared for and supported in a person centered, individualized way to ensure their physical, emotional and spiritual need are met.
Care is provided 24 hours a day.
We are looking for a new member to join our day Care Assistant staff team.
The Purpose of the Position:
- To be part of the team and to share with other staff in meeting the needs of the Residents in such a way that shows respect and upholds the dignity of the Individual. All actions should be aimed at promoting independence and self – sufficiency
- To help to maintain the care and presentation of the Residents physical environment and the general day to day activities of the Home
- To have commitment to your role as a Care Assistant.
The Principal Responsibilities are:
- To assist or carry out the care required for personal care; washing, bathing, dressing, undressing, toileting and use of incontinence aids, in line with the Individuals Care Plans
- To assist Residents who have mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including; incontinence, sensory impairment and memory disorders
- To care for the needs of Residents who are ill and need bed care, minor dressings, mouth care and pressure area care
- To help care for the Residents who are in the final stages of life
- To help with the promotion of mental and physical activities of the Residents
- To maintain a high standard of care within the Residents living space by, making the bed or changing bed linen, to the highest possible standard, to empty and sanitise the commode pan and frame, to put away the clean linen from the Residents personal clean laundry basket, to tidy the room and in the absence of the Housekeeping staff to carry out light cleaning
- To take dirty laundry to the laundry at the end of each shift, sort into correct bins and return the carriers to the appropriate place
- To set tables and trays for meal times; to assist with the service of meals and beverages. Designated Care Assistant to feed the Residents who require feeding or assist those who need help
- To assist in the preparation of breakfast and snacks as required, to leave the kitchen clean and tidy ready for the next shift. To clear, tidy and vacuum the Dining Rooms after every meal
- To promptly answer all call/emergency bells, the front door and telephone. To greet all visitors and offer refreshment. Providing a correctly laid tray with biscuits or cake, depending on the time of day
- To read and write daily/nightly reports, at any time within the 12-hour period, ensuring the correct time of entry on each report
- It is a statutory requirement to attend shift handovers and staff meetings
- A high emphasis is placed on training, with a variety of methods available; in house lectures and tutorials, e – learning and professional external training, as required, including progression through the QCF qualifications, as applicable
- To administer all prescribed medications in accordance with the Homes Policies and Procedures, only if professionally trained to do so.
Any such other duties as may be required.
