Job description
We are looking for a Care Assistant to join our friendly Team at Woodthorpe Manor Care Home, for part time or full time position.
We are looking for candidate, who is flexible with shifts, available to work weekends/ Bank Holidays.
Objectives
To provide safe and appropriate personalised care and support to residents while maintaining their dignity, maximising independence and giving them choice and control over the way their care is provided.
Responsibilities and Duties
Helping residents with their immediate needs and assisting with personal care such as, getting up and going to bed, washing, toileting and continence management, dressing, assisting residents with their meals and drinks and maintaining their hygiene, as well as helping them with other basic day-to-day tasks.
Provide mobility assistance where required. This may involve using a hoist, manual handling equipment, pushing a wheelchair or offering physical assistance when required.
Assist and support residents to exercise choice and control in accordance with their needs, preferences and aspirations
Getting to know the residents personally and providing them with emotional support and company, which contributes positively to their well being.
Encourage, motivate and support residents to maintain or regain maximum independence in all aspects of daily living and purposeful activities.
Write and maintain up to date individual person centred care plans for residents.
Communicate with residents and their next of kin and/ or relatives to ensure where possible, a shared approach to care and support which supports the best interest of the resident.
Record relevant information about the resident in their individual care plans and other care databases the nursing home uses, as and when the information becomes available; backing up data and making necessary copies
Monitor the residents' care and welfare and record information accurately and keep it up to date in their care plans and other written communication systems.
Follow policies and procedures to prevent the spread of diseases and illnesses amongst self, colleagues, and residents.
Report to the Nurse in Charge, Deputy Manager or the Home Manager, changes which may affect the welfare and safety of the residents, visitors, contractors or colleagues or that may affect working conditions.
Work and cooperate with other professionals communicating information and acting on guidance given, to ensure there is continuity of care and treatment for residents.
Maintaining resident confidentiality and respecting the rights of residents.
Able to travel on work purposes either by public transport or by their own means and have a flexible availability for work including weekends and Bank Holidays

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
General understanding of the needs of people who require care and support.
Respect for the rights of our residents. Understanding the importance of giving the best possible care and support centred on the individual needs and wishes of each resident.
Understanding of why confidentiality is important and what this means as a care worker.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Experience of undertaking personal care tasks (e.g assisting with washing, bathing, dressing, feeding and using the toilet etc) to a high standard in a respectful and caring manner.
Ability to listen, communicate clearly and build positive working relationships with residents, their families, Woodthorpe Manor staff and other social and health care professionals.
Ability to use own initiative and work alone or as part of a team especially in an emergency.
Ability to keep written records in clear English about the care and support given to each resident.
Ability to work well with others as part of a team and build positive personal relationships.
Ability to listen carefully and follow reasonable instructions, policies, procedures and guidelines etc.
Ability to undertake duties, to a high standard, without unnecessary supervision as appropriate.
Ability to seek guidance from senior colleagues, as appropriate, when unclear.
Experience of, or ability to, provide support and guidance to colleagues and to be able to deal with emergency and difficult situations
Ability to demonstrate the resilience and emotional control required to work in a demanding but rewarding environment.
Understanding and ability to treat citizens, colleagues and residents with dignity and respect.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Willingness to undertake training. All staff are expected to meet regulatory training standards
Ability to communicate with residents who may communicate their needs and wishes in different ways.
Willingness to undertake training and development, as necessary, to enhance the service (e.g. relevant Health & Social Care qualifications)
This role will require you to obtain an Enhanced satisfactory clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service formally known as the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure.
