Job description

Plan with Care are looking for a Care and Wellbeing assistant for a wonderful elderly client of ours, living in Hove. Please read the whole job description before applying

Plan with Care is a quality-of-life company, we specialise in care & wellbeing support that is deeply relational - we want to ensure our Carers and Companions are well matched to the person(s) they are supporting. This is an opportunity to help an amazing family. Our client lives at home with his wife, and they have such a loving, positive attitude to life, full of interesting hobbies and activities, and all of this despite his various health issues including memory loss, confusion and significant mobility issues, due to his vascular dementia.

To start with, we are looking for 3 shifts on a Tuesday, Thursday, and one day on the weekend. This would ideally be 6 hours between 10am - 4pm, 12pm-6pm, or 2pm-8pm. There are options to increase hours on an adhoc basis and over time as his dependency increases.

He likes to get out, particularly for local walks (with a wheelchair) along the sea front and for visits to Waterstones. He is an extremely bright man with a background in engineering and inventing. He and his wife love to read and are also artists.

We are seeking someone to:

  • facilitate our Client to get out of the flat, including pushing a wheelchair and driving him in a car
  • spend time with our Client at home engaging in one of his many interests, or simply having a chat, to allow his wife some respite time to leave and do her own thing
  • support our Client and his wife with light housekeeping and sorting of belongings at home

The ideal candidate will:

  • be physically strong, able to support my Client with mobility and balance in and out of a wheelchair and the Candidate’s own car (we will provide manual handling training)
  • Have a can-do attitude, and understand that my client has a fierce positive-risk-taking attitude and doesn’t want anyone to patronise him or hold him back from decisions he has the capacity to make
  • Have an interest in engineering, inventing and art
  • Some experience in care for elderly people including for people living with dementia
  • Be open to increasing hours of support as the Client's needs increase

If interested, please submit a short paragraph cover letter / message telling me a little about yourself and why you would like this role.
