Job description
Our client is a young female living in Northwich with her lovely supportive family and a very friendly small dog. She has a diagnosis of Autism, Dyslexia, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, IBS and Functional Neurological Disorder causing her to have frequent seizures. She is also fed via an NJ tube.
She is a bright, articulate young woman who enjoys cooking, shopping and day trips out and would like to develop her independence to become less reliant on family, eventually hoping to be able to go away for short breaks and visit Centre Parcs which is a favourite place.
We are recruiting two Personal Assistants to assist with all aspects of everyday living to enable her to achieve her goals. Due to the personal nature of the role, females only please. (The employer has claimed an exemption under the equality Act 2010)
We are looking for a capable, empathetic person with outstanding interpersonal skills and an understanding of the issues that these diagnosed conditions present. Someone who can build relationships based on trust, respect and consistency, who can support her to become more adventurous in the kitchen (and is happy to eat the results), to supervise when she prepares and administers her own medication, to assist with personal care and who will be able to oversee and maintain her safety when having seizures as well as monitoring afterwards. The person will need to be calm, patient, intuitive, positive, adaptable with an understanding of the need for boundaries and with a genuine desire to enable someone to reach their potential. It is important that they listen to our client’s feelings and are able to adapt to changing emotional needs. A non-smoker would be preferred as our client is highly sensitive to sensory stimulation and exposure to particular odours.
All training will be provided for use of equipment that is used on a daily basis.
It is essential all applicants have a full, clean, UK driving license and are willing to drive and accompany where necessary.
Hours: 9:00am – 18:00pm (some evenings) Hours and shifts to be discussed.
Rate of pay £10.50 per hour whilst under training and supervision, rising to £11.50 per hour.
Any evening rate to be discussed at interview stage as will not usually be necessary. Some holidays/overnight stays may be required to be discussed.
(The position is subject to an enhanced DBS check and is exempt from the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.)
